Rising Stars: Meet Brenda Markstein of Valley Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Markstein.

Hi brenda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Because this is a follow up story about myself and Rocas Retreat you have my beginning story and background. What I am so proud to share is our success story and our growth.
We are are so proud to have started Rocas Retreat in the middle of the COVID epidemic. We had the foresight to know healing would be a huge need for the public. Our beautiful land and spaces provided an amazing sanctuary for practitioners and my self. Along with our cottage, Ranch house, winery, barn, hot tub and pool, fire pit, we have added our meditation yoga room, 200 person event tent, sauna and our huge draw our Temezcal sweat lodge. It can hold up to 25 people. Our leaders are the traditional leaders with ceremonial style sweats that are life changing. They have been trained and are true Sun dancers. We honor this sacred tradition.
I also became certified in Somatic Breathwork. We lead many events which include this healing modality.
We have new additions to our center Miss Maggie Nielsen and Mr. Nate Nadeau’s. Both gifted practitioners in Reiki and Breathwork..
Our men’s retreats have tripled and even this weekend we have 20 Naturapath Dr. attending a retreat here at Rocas.
It is my Bliss to share our amazing center with the San Diego communities and beyond. Myself and Miss Nikki Michelini see nothing but growth for Rocas Retreat. Come join us and experience the Love!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As in business’s everywhere you have a slow year. Ours was 2023. We made some changes to bring in more revenue. Such as putting our cottage on Air B n B. Doing in house housekeeping. We also repaired the roof on the ranch house and got it ready for short term rental. But only in our downtime.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am always looking to expand the business but mostly myself. I became certified as a Somatic Breathwork practitioner. I started doing more retreats in house and more online videos for social media. What truly feeds my soul is to see the changes in people as they become aware of the parts of their life they chose to let go of in order to become a version of themselves they have sought for a long time. Life changes and it can happen so fast. We also offer extended integration to help our participants. We are unique as we offer many offerings to outside practitioners from one day event space to many days. Our many chefs can prepare many type of meals for all palates and needs.
