We recently had the chance to connect with Lex Holley and have shared our conversation below.
Lex, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Cake decorating. There’s something sacred about the process the quiet focus, the creativity, the way every detail comes together to tell a story without words. When I’m decorating, it’s like time pauses. The world gets still, and it’s just me, my tools, and the art I’m creating. It’s where I feel closest to God and most connected to my purpose turning simple ingredients into something beautiful that makes people feel seen and celebrated. It’s not just cake; it’s where I come home to myself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Lex the creative mind behind Fueled by Flour, a baking brand that mixes nostalgic comfort with modern “it girl baker” energy. What started as my outlet for creative expression in the kitchen has evolved into a growing dessert and lifestyle brand that celebrates baking as both an art and a lifestyle.
Fueled by Flour isn’t just about cakes, it’s about confidence, creativity, and community. From cozy, character-inspired bento cakes to playful merch like “Hot Girls Bake” tumblers and “Carb Dealer” stickers, everything I make is designed to spark joy and connection for fellow creatives and dessert lovers.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding the brand beyond the kitchen launching digital products and growing our online community. Fueled by Flour is about more than flour and frosting it’s about proving that your passions can feed others (literally and figuratively), and that there’s power in making something sweetly yours.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My sister. She’s always believed in me—long before I had the confidence to believe in myself. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her Holy Spirit–led discernment and boldness. She’s the reason I walk in courage now. Watching her stand firm when others opposed her taught me what real confidence looks like. She’s the one who showed me how to boldly approach God, how to ask without fear, and how to persevere when things get hard. She is truly the most fearless, faith-filled person I know.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. There was a season when my health challenges and mental battles pushed me to the edge — physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I faced moments where the pain felt unbearable and where I genuinely questioned my purpose and whether I had the strength to keep going.
But even in that darkness, God met me there. It was in my weakest moments that I learned what real surrender and faith looked like. I discovered that healing isn’t linear — it’s messy, painful, and sacred all at once. My story is proof that even when you feel completely broken, God can rebuild you into something even stronger and more purposeful. Today, I carry that season with gratitude because it’s what shaped my boldness, my empathy, and my drive to live fully — not perfectly, but faithfully.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m deeply committed to my business, because it’s part of my God-given purpose. I truly believe Fueled by Flour was entrusted to me. It’s more than just cake; it’s a space where people from all walks of life can feel seen, heard, and valued. My vision is to build something that puts people over profit, where kindness and community come first. I want this business to reflect God’s heart, one rooted in generosity, creativity, and hospitality. No matter how long it takes, I’m dedicated to growing it into something that blesses others far beyond the kitchen.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I was a woman of kindness, faith, love, and valor. That I saw and valued the people others overlooked. I want to be remembered as someone who would go out of her way to lift up the outcasts. To make them feel loved, seen, and worthy. I hope people say that I carried light into every room, and that I used my voice to give others a platform to shine.
More than anything, I want my legacy to outlive me. That through my words, actions, and faith, people would be reminded that they are fearfully and wonderfully made. That because of the way I spoke life into them, they’d go on to walk boldly in love and light themselves.
