An Inspired Chat with Leah Sorensen

Leah Sorensen shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Leah, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Friends. Live music. Sunshine. Dancing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a proud North County native—a rare breed these days! I grew up in the beautiful town of Encinitas, raised my kids there, and now live in Carlsbad. Having lived, worked, and volunteered here my whole life, I feel deeply invested in our communities. Beyond my work with local public agencies, I volunteer with organizations that support those facing homelessness, food insecurity, and domestic violence. For me, giving back and uplifting others isn’t just important—it’s what life is all about. Love and supporting the village are at the core of who I am.

Currently, I balance a full-time role in Housing and Homeless Services with my essential oil brand partnership and an event coordinator role at Leucadia Cyclery. Each of these roles allows me to serve others in unique ways, whether it’s through creating healthier, more supportive environments, building community connections, or organizing events that bring people together. My story is rooted in community, purpose, and the belief that even small contributions can make a lasting impact.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad. He was a surfboard maker and small business owner who built something meaningful from the ground up and made an impact across the world. Watching his passion, work ethic, and dedication taught me that work is about more than just what you do — it’s about the difference you make and the legacy you leave behind.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to have empathy for others’ untold struggles and to not sweat the small stuff. Life is too short to carry unnecessary worries, and a little compassion goes a long way.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is community, kindness, and making a positive impact. They know I value showing up for others, supporting those in need, and creating spaces where people feel cared for and connected. At the end of the day, love and lifting each other up are what drive me.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Raising children!
