Conversations with Jeremy Guffey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Guffey.

Hi Jeremy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
San Diego native born in 68 . I’ve been drawn to dark art being born on Halloween and have been able to blend that with my art , work and life ever since .
Back in the very early 70’s I found skateboarding and that was a staple in my life ever since . Along with skateboarding and being born on Halloween , I found myself falling more and more into dark art and eventually Punk Rock .
Graduated from Mira Mesa High School in “86” , dropped my skateboard sponsors , eventually dropped my job at Pizza Hut and found myself moved out to Santee to “together” and out there is where I met a bunch of people that led me into the music business.
By late”89” I was booking bands at club Soma . By 1997, I had left the club after booking bands as well as running and some would say managing the club. By then I had had my cell with trying to do something locally based while my vision was exciting and fresh, I did not own the venue nor have the money or statue to continue so unfortunately your business altogether, and went back to gardening/landscaping.
Over the years with my mini bands, I would still create art and continued in the landscaping/gardening profession.
Long story short, I am still in a band to this day, which is called black widow prophecy, I’m also in a band called Morning Star. I have a long running project with my wife and good friend that we call the left outs.
I also started a podcast a while ago called union and Metro podcast. This is a podcast where we share stories of people who played the club and in 2026. We’re starting a new season where the formula is gonna be a little bit tighter to allow us to do short form interviews. I’m really explore a lot more about Music and the San Diego music scene. I’m still an artist and my mediums for artwork range from everything like spoken word, two different media on different forms of “canvas“
Most importantly, I am a father and a husband, and we try to live a private life in our humble little haunted house.
This is probably the fastest way to explain my life and legacy in a short form interview.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
You talking about struggles and what I’ve been through over the years is a novel in itself. And in a way, it’s probably the hardest for me to articulate because nothing’s been easy since day one.
As an artist, I’ve always found myself struggling to justify my art, and whatever form it may be, and then somehow finance my life to wear, I had financial freedom, which would allow me to freedom to do the art that I want to do.
The financial freedom part has never come to pass and highly doubt it will as I charge fairly for what I do, but with the ever-changing tied of the economy and other things completely out of your control, sometimes you have to make choices to provide for your family and put food on the table that don’t jive well with you artistically And for me, I usually go for my morals and values over money. Again, this hasn’t always been the smartest decision, but as an artist, and for those that have exploited the genre of artists that I come from, been a punk rocker , I have an internal discussed. I have been fake let alone becoming just another product that is bought, sold and exploited.
Long story short, I’ve compromised a lot of things in my life to stay true to my morals and values, and to keep my art true and a hound a path where I can provide for my family and become a part of society without exploiting myself or my family and no, none of this has ever been easy.
I wouldn’t change a single thing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is a combination of what I do 5 to 6 days a week and that is gardening/landscaping/yardwork and I am always available for hire. I also still have my skateboard company where I hand paint Skateboards and occasionally I will press and skateboard decks and that is called red rum skates. And that company has been around since 2007.
Considering that is my wife and I that are doing the skateboard company that is definitely high up on the list but over the years I had a gallery called “the lunatic fringe” which was a really cool dark art art gallery that I had in Pacific Beach. I am also quite proud of what I’ve done as far as landscapes and working with block, brick, Flagstone, rock and even waterfalls, which I still do as specialty jobs.
I think my greatest accomplishment was what I was able to do in the San Diego music scene and help established band such as blink-182, buck 0 nine , short lived , unwritten law and so many more that it would become a repetitive name dropping, but on the other hand, it’s also my greatest disappointment to have done that in my earlier years and by 1997 I was done and had to reinvent myself. This is why I started the concept and ran with it up until this day, which is what is called the Union and Metro podcast.
The podcast and podcasting in general is really fun for me to do and accuse me involved with my legacy of the past.
That being said and after careful thought I think my greatest accomplishments to this day of all the many things that I’ve done from being published for my art to painting well over 850 Skateboards for redrum skates let alone doing the charity that I ran for a few years, called Skateboards for kids, I think my greatest accomplishment is being in my later 50s and being in the bands, black widow prophecy, MorningStar and The Left Outs as well as still being able to provide for my family.
Being a punk rocker, and means a lot to me to have not sold out and being able to hold onto as much creative freedom as possible over all these years.

Any big plans?
Future plans for myself is to continue growing my gardening/yardwork company, as well as as we are continuing to write new music and make videos for two of the bands and are found at Deep Six Records on YouTube or my channel JermWarfare productions .
Currently, black widow prophecy is working on another video and we are slowly but surely recording an album’s worth of material.
My cohost and I are also going to start recording for season six of our podcast which is called “union and Metro podcast” and we are very excited about this as we are changing the format and we’re going to be able to produce more content and we are upgrading to a video as well as audio presentation of the show so that is one of the most exciting things!!!
I’m also looking forward to helping my wife push another side of the lifestyle which is selling the jewelry as well as resin artwork that I’ve been making over the last couple years.
