Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Young.
Hi Courtney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
SoCo Gold Permanent Jewelry started as a creative passion project and has grown into a business I truly love. I’ve always been drawn to jewelry as a form of self-expression, but what really inspired me was the idea of creating something personal — especially through custom-fit, thoughtfully designed pieces that people could wear every day and associate with a memory or a milestone.
I launched SoCo Gold in San Diego in 2023 as an appointment-only permanent jewelry studio, along with a mobile service for pop-ups, private events, and collaborations with local businesses. The business grew organically through word of mouth and community support.
Today, SoCo Gold is known for its personalized experience, attention to detail, and high-quality chains and designs, as well as building meaningful connections with clients and fellow creatives throughout the community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most small businesses, the journey hasn’t been completely smooth, but it’s been incredibly rewarding. Starting from the ground up meant learning many different aspects of running a business at once — from sourcing and perfecting the craft to branding, marketing, and building a client base.
One of the biggest challenges early on was gaining visibility and trust in a newer industry, but each experience helped shape the business and strengthen the brand.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At SoCo Gold, I specialize in custom-fit permanent jewelry, offering bracelets, anklets, necklaces, and other clasp-free pieces designed for everyday wear. Each piece is individually measured and tailored for a seamless, elevated fit.
The brand is known for its high-quality chains, attention to detail, and a calm, personalized experience — whether in the studio or at private events and pop-ups. I focus on sourcing timeless, durable materials that feel both beautiful and lasting.
What sets the business apart is the emphasis on customization, quality, and creating an experience that feels thoughtful rather than transactional. I’m most proud of the trust clients place in me and the meaningful moments these pieces get to be part of.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t necessarily think of the journey as being driven by luck as much as consistency and intention. Building SoCo Gold Permanent Jewelry has been about showing up, learning as I go, and steadily creating something I’m proud of.
I’m grateful for the opportunities that have come from building genuine relationships, which have helped nurture the business into what it is today and where it’s headed in the future.
