Today we’d like to introduce you to Huey Mitchell.
Hi Huey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
“My story started with a simple love for animals and a pair of supportive parents who saw how much I thrived when given the responsibility of a pet. What began as a childhood hobby evolved into a true passion when I started breeding guppies as a teenager. I wasn’t just keeping fish; I was learning the nuances of the trade—trading my stock for supplies and networking with local shop owners.
I realized early on that I had a natural gift for solving the ‘puzzle’ of breeding more sensitive and difficult species. That same curiosity and drive stayed with me as I transitioned from aquatic life to the world of rare reptiles. Today, I apply those years of experience to working with unique geckos, turning a lifelong fascination into a dedicated professional journey.”
A quick tip for your submission:
If the interview asks about “Challenges” or “Roadblocks” (which Voyage almost always does), you might want to mention the learning curve of moving from fish to reptiles. It shows growth and expertise!
Would you like me to help you draft responses for the “Risk Taking” or “Overcoming Obstacles” sections of the interview as well?
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“Transitioning from aquatic life to sensitive reptile species required a steep learning curve. The biggest challenge was mastering the precise environmental controls—humidity, temperature, and specialized lighting—needed for rare geckos. I overcame this through meticulous data tracking and trial, eventually turning those early hurdles into my greatest technical strengths.”
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I keep and breed various species of reptiles, amphibians, and a few different feeders fruit flies ,roaches crickets, meal worms I’m none for being ahead of the curve producing some of the most stunning animals, I’m also one of the only people that stands behind everything I produce, if something doesn’t stand up my standards it. I pride myself in knowing what I keep so that I can give my customers the best information possible, my learning never stops I’m always looking to see if I can improve care and feeding information using my records and sharing/trading information with others.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck play a part in my life and business I make sure to do the research and plan what I’m going to do next in both depending on what you will never be successful
