Meet Sam Swinehart of Samtech Automotive

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Swinehart.

Hi Sam, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Sam, the owner of Samtech Automotive, got his start in the industry at a young age, working alongside a neighbor on vehicles. What began as curiosity quickly turned into a passion. Over time, that passion grew as he started working on his own vehicles, then helping family and friends, eventually leading him into a business partnership before deciding to branch out on his own.

In 2012, Sam officially established Samtech Automotive. Like many small businesses, it started modestly—working out of a garage, then moving into a small rented space, and later into a larger shared facility. The early years weren’t easy. Finding customers and learning how to properly price work were some of the biggest challenges, along with the long hours and financial risk that come with building something from the ground up.

What pushed Sam forward was a clear purpose. He had seen too many people—friends, family, and community members—feel taken advantage of by dealerships and other repair shops. He wanted to create something different. A place where people could feel confident, informed, and treated fairly. That mindset became the foundation of Samtech.

As the business grew, key moments helped shape its direction. Hiring his first employee was a turning point, showing him the importance of building a strong team. Later, moving from a shared space into his own dedicated facility in 2020 marked another major milestone. Today, Samtech has grown into a team of around ten, continuing to expand while staying grounded in its original values.

Along the way, Sam learned that success isn’t just about skill—it’s about people. One of the biggest lessons has been the importance of hiring the right individuals who genuinely care and align with the company’s values. That lesson also shaped his leadership style, teaching him to listen more and lead with intention.

At its core, Samtech Automotive was built on support from those around him, persistence, and a belief in doing things the right way. Sam’s philosophy is simple: treat every customer the way you would treat your own family, and if something isn’t done right, learn from it and improve moving forward.

Today, what he is most proud of isn’t just the growth of the business, but the culture within it. The team treats each other with respect, cares about their work, and that care carries over to every customer interaction.

Even on the hardest days, Sam stays grounded in why he started—providing for his family, supporting his team, and making sure every customer leaves satisfied. Building the business required significant time, sacrifice, and risk, especially in the early years, but it’s those challenges that made the success meaningful.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No—it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.

Like many small business owners, Sam started with limited resources, working out of a garage and slowly moving into small rented and shared spaces as the business grew. In the early days, one of the biggest challenges was simply getting customers through the door and figuring out how to price work correctly. There was a lot of trial and error, along with the long hours and financial risk that come with building something from the ground up.

As the business expanded, new challenges came with it. Hiring was a major learning curve—realizing that not just anyone can fill a role, and that the right team members need to share the same values and genuinely care about the work and the people they serve. That lesson shaped how Sam approaches building his team today.

There were also the personal challenges that come with entrepreneurship—significant time investment, financial strain in the beginning, and the pressure of taking a risk on something that isn’t guaranteed to succeed.

Through it all, those challenges became part of the growth. They pushed Sam to become a better leader, especially by learning to listen more, adapt, and stay focused on doing things the right way—for both his team and his customers.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Samtech Automotive is a full-service automotive repair facility based in Escondido, California, serving a wide range of vehicles including gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric. Our focus is on accurate diagnostics, quality repairs, and clear communication so customers fully understand what their vehicle needs and why.

What sets us apart is our commitment to doing things the right way, even when it takes more time or effort. In an industry where many people feel uncertain or taken advantage of, we work hard to be the place customers can trust. That means no guesswork, no shortcuts, and no pressure—just honest recommendations backed by proper inspection, documentation, and experience.

We are especially known for our transparency and the way we communicate with our customers. Our team takes the time to explain findings in a way that makes sense, often supported with photos and detailed notes, so customers can make informed decisions about their vehicles. We also invest heavily in ongoing training and education to keep up with the increasing complexity of modern vehicles.

As a brand, what we are most proud of is our culture. We’ve built a team that genuinely cares—about the work, about each other, and about the people we serve. That shows in the consistency of our service and the relationships we build with our customers over time.

At the end of the day, we want our community to know that Samtech Automotive is here to provide safe, reliable service with integrity. Our goal is simple: treat every customer the way we would treat our own family, and make sure they leave feeling confident in both their vehicle and their experience with us

We believe people deserve honesty, clear answers, and quality work—every time. If something isn’t done right, we learn from it and make sure we do better the next time.

We’re grateful for the support from our community over the years. None of this happens without that support, and it’s something we carry with us in how we show up every day.
