Today we’d like to introduce you to Star George.
Star, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, my name is Star George, and this is my story.
For as long as I can remember, fashion has been my passion. As the daughter of first-generation Eritrean immigrants, I was raised in a culture where careers in medicine, law, finance, or engineering were often viewed as the most stable paths to success. My parents sacrificed so much to build a better future for our family, and because of their unwavering dedication, hard work, and encouragement to always strive for more, I was given opportunities they never had. I am deeply grateful for everything they have done.
At the same time, pursuing a career in fashion and the creative arts was far from the traditional path my family envisioned. But I remained steadfast in my conviction that I was called to work in fashion. When I was 12 years old, I created the name and logo for what I imagined would one day become my own clothing company. Soon after, I began researching fashion schools and discovered Parsons, whose belief that good design should be created with integrity deeply resonated with me. From that moment on, I was certain I would work in fashion.
Although I could not study fashion management as an undergraduate because my university did not offer the major, I made sure I was still working toward that goal. I added an art minor to complement my marketing major. After graduating with my undergraduate degree, I earned a master’s degree in Fashion Management from Parsons, where I received specialized training in fashion business innovation, sustainability, and systems-driven management strategies. While there, I also authored a 40+ page strategic marketing framework to help fashion brands effectively communicate sustainability initiatives and circular fashion.
While I was pursuing my master’s degree, I also started to build a deeper relationship with God, which gave me better vision and direction for my future. During this time, I started developing my small business, Creatives for Christ, which was birthed from my own testimony of not always feeling encouraged to pursue my creative gifts growing up. The mission of this business is to encourage Christian creatives to include God in their creative process and to remind them that their talents are God-given and valuable. So far, I have created products such as phone cases and poster prints, and I am currently in the process of developing clothing pieces. My passion for fashion, creativity, and faith continues to inspire my business and creations. I hope to help Christian creatives—and creatives in general—understand the source of creativity, the value of creating art, and how to include God in the creative process.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been struggles. The biggest challenge has been having the courage to start my business and pour as much time, resources, and heart into it while not always feeling completely understood by my parents or family members. Coming from a background where stability and security have always been deeply valued, I understand why they have viewed my path differently. I am incredibly grateful for the sacrifices they have made and for always wanting the best for my future. Through these struggles, I have learned the importance of surrounding myself with creative friends who have similar pursuits and dreams, as well as the value of slowing down and spending intentional time with God and journaling to reconnect with the purpose behind my pursuits.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Creatives for Christ?
Creatives for Christ is a faith-based creative studio that offers creative services, event services, and products such as phone cases, posters/decor, and clothing goods (coming soon). Creative services include digital design, flyer design, merch design, custom business designs, photography, social media/multimedia content creation, and providing social media content for others. In the near future, this brand is planning to arrange in-person networking events for creatives to connect, promote, and market with other creatives. What sets us apart is the fact that it is rooted in faith-based values, and that drives this business. A verse that inspires this brand is 1 Corinthians 10:31, which says, “Well, whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it all for God’s glory” (GNT). So what drives this brand is the desire to glorify God, honor Him, and encourage and honor others in our conduct.
