Today we’d like to introduce you to Farah Turner.
Farah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Photography found me during one of the biggest transitions in my life after I had my first daughter. At the time, I was looking for something that was just for me, something that helped me step outside of being “just Mom” and reconnect with who I was. What started as a small side hustle quickly turned into something I fell completely in love with.
Over the last four years, that side gig has grown into my full-time career. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of photographing growing families, couples in love, and wedding days filled with emotion. While I consider myself a lifestyle photographer, weddings and couples hold a special place in my heart. There’s something incredible about documenting the beginning of a family’s story and creating images they’ll look back on for generations.
My faith has been at the center of this journey. I truly believe God opened doors I never could have imagined and has guided every step of my business. My goal has never been just to take beautiful photos it’s to love people well, serve them with excellence, and use the gifts He’s given me to capture moments that matter. Every opportunity I receive is something I give the glory back to Him for.
Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for where this journey has taken me. Photography gave me confidence, purpose, and a career I genuinely love. Today, I get to serve amazing clients, preserve meaningful memories, and do work that I’m passionate about every single day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the hardest seasons was going on maternity leave after having my second daughter. Stepping away from a business you’ve built is difficult, and coming back was even harder. I wasn’t just learning how to balance photography anymore I was learning how to be a mom of two while getting my business back into the swing of things. It took time to find a new rhythm, and there were moments when I questioned whether I could juggle it all.
Like many business owners, I’ve also dealt with imposter syndrome and the pressure of wearing every hat in my business. But every challenge has taught me something valuable. They’ve made me more resilient, helped me grow as both a photographer and business owner, and reminded me why I started in the first place.
Most importantly, my faith carried me through those seasons. I learned to trust God’s timing instead of my own and to lean on Him when things felt overwhelming. Looking back, I’m grateful for the challenges because they’ve shaped both my business and who I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a lifestyle and wedding photographer based in Southern California, specializing in capturing genuine, joy-filled moments that people can cherish for a lifetime. While I photograph everything from families to seniors and maternity sessions, weddings and couples are where my heart truly is. I love documenting not only what a day looked like, but how it felt.
One thing my clients consistently say sets me apart is how comfortable I make them feel. Almost everyone tells me they’re awkward in front of the camera, but that’s where I thrive. I’m very hands-on and give plenty of direction and prompts, so no one is left wondering what to do. My goal is for every session to feel relaxed, fun, and authentic, resulting in images that look natural rather than overly posed.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the business I’ve built it’s the relationships that have come from it. I’ve had the honor of photographing clients through so many milestones, from engagements to weddings, maternity, newborns, and growing families. Being trusted to document those chapters of someone’s life is something I never take for granted.
At the core of everything I do is my faith. I believe this business is a gift from God, and I strive to serve every client with kindness, excellence, and genuine care. For me, photography is about so much more than beautiful images it’s about preserving memories, telling stories, and creating an experience where people feel seen, celebrated, and loved.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that success isn’t about comparing yourself to everyone else it’s about staying true to who God created you to be. Early on, it was easy to get caught up in what other photographers were doing, but I realized that comparison only steals your joy and distracts you from your own purpose.
I’ve also learned that growth takes patience. Building a business while raising a family hasn’t always been easy, and there have been seasons where progress felt slow. Looking back, I can see that every challenge, every quiet season, and every opportunity was preparing me for what was next. God’s timing has always been better than my own.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that the relationships I build matter more than anything else. At the end of the day, people may remember the photos, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel. If my clients leave feeling cared for, comfortable, and valued, then I’ve done my job well.
