Daily Inspiration: Meet James Mccoy

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Mccoy.

Hi James, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Gold Fox Repair started because I saw there was a better way to do appliance repair. Too many people were waiting days for service, getting poor communication, or being told to replace an appliance when it could have been repaired. I wanted to build a company that people could actually trust.

From the beginning, the focus has been simple—show up on time, communicate clearly, diagnose the problem correctly, and treat every customer the way I’d want my own family to be treated. We work on everything from refrigerators and washers to dryers, ovens, dishwashers, ice machines, and commercial equipment, and we’re always looking for ways to improve our service and stay up to date with the latest technology.

Today, we’re proud to serve homeowners, property managers, and businesses throughout San Diego County. We’re still growing, but our goal hasn’t changed: provide fast, honest, high-quality repairs and make the whole experience as stress-free as possible. That’s what “Fast Like a Fox. Built to the Gold Standard.” means to us.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s part of building any business from the ground up. One of the biggest challenges early on was learning how to balance everything—doing the repairs, answering customers, scheduling jobs, finding parts, and still trying to grow the business at the same time.

Appliance repair itself is constantly changing too. Appliances are becoming more advanced, so there’s always something new to learn and a new problem you haven’t seen before. That pushed me to get better at diagnosing problems, understanding newer technology, and finding better ways to serve our customers.

There have definitely been long days, mistakes, and plenty of lessons along the way, but each challenge has helped shape Gold Fox Repair into a better company. We’re still learning and growing, and I think that mindset is a big part of what’s gotten us to where we are today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Gold Fox Repair, we specialize in residential and commercial appliance repair throughout San Diego County. We repair refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens, dishwashers, ice machines, vending machines, and other commercial equipment. Whether it’s a simple repair or a more complex diagnostic issue, our goal is to get our customers back up and running as quickly as possible.

What we’re most proud of is the trust we’ve built with our customers. We know that when an appliance breaks down, it’s disruptive, so we focus on being responsive, communicating clearly, and providing honest recommendations instead of pushing unnecessary repairs or replacements.

I think what sets us apart is our approach to diagnostics and customer service. We take the time to find the actual root cause of a problem rather than just replacing parts and hoping for the best. We also believe customers deserve to understand what’s wrong with their appliance, so we explain the issue and the available options in plain language. Our goal is to make the repair process simple, transparent, and stress-free from the first phone call to the completed repair.

At the end of the day, we want people to think of Gold Fox Repair as the company they can rely on for fast, honest, and dependable service. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to every day.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m always looking for ways to learn and improve, especially in an industry that’s constantly evolving. I spend a lot of time reading manufacturer service manuals, technical documentation, and participating in online technician communities where professionals share troubleshooting tips and real-world repair experiences.

On the business side, I enjoy listening to podcasts and reading about entrepreneurship, customer service, and marketing. Running a business means you’re always learning—not just about the technical side of repairs, but also how to better serve customers and build a stronger company.

One thing I’ve learned is that staying curious is one of the best resources you can have. Technology changes quickly, so making time to keep learning has been a big part of helping Gold Fox Repair grow and continue providing better service.
