Today we’d like to introduce you to Perla Miramontes.
Hi Perla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started photography when I was around 15 or 16 years old. Just using my phone to capture photos. It started off as a hobby, and I wanted to fill up a box of photographs just like my mother kept. In my early 20s, I went to school for photography, and I learned a lot from there. However, I also started to fall out of love with the career. I did all kinds of photography from modeling portraits and concert photography. I didn’t entirely love it. It wasn’t until a school project that I discovered I just needed to combine my two passions. Combat sports and photography. I contacted local boxers in the San Diego area, and my career began there. Now, I take photos for a local gym in Miramar called Ninety-two 98 Boxing. It is my home. I also have the luck of shooting Zuffa’s very own Adan Palma, and another local boxer such as Eric Villa. I love where the sport has taken me. Given me opportunities to shoot at an events like ProBox TV, Battle of the Badges, or even being able to shoot a world champion like Bam Rodriguez.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Right now, it’s been smooth. I have stability shooting for local boxers. I wouldn’t have been here in my career without them.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a combat sports photographer. I’m known for shooting Boxers in the San Diego area, and sometimes other pros. I’m the most proud of my work, and being able to shoot photos ringside. I think what sets me apart is that I can capture more than the action. I love capturing the intimate moments.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
San Diego is the best city all around. There is so much heart and history here
