Conversations with Joe “Jizzo” Niño

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe “Jizzo” Niño.

Hi Joe “Jizzo”, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Fresno, California, and got my start in radio at a young age. What began as an opportunity to work in local radio turned into a career that lasted nearly 20 years, primarily as an on-air personality. Over that time, I worked in several different areas of the industry, including hosting, voiceover, production, live events, brand partnerships, interviewing artists and creating content.

I spent most of my career on B95 in Fresno, where I hosted both nights and afternoon drive and had the opportunity to connect with listeners throughout the Central Valley. I also did voice work for stations in markets including Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, Portland and others, and worked with a wide range of local and national brands.

After nearly two decades in radio, my position was eliminated in 2026, which unexpectedly put me at the beginning of a new chapter. Right now, I’m exploring where my experience in media, entertainment, voiceover, content creation and connecting with audiences can take me next. I’m excited about the opportunity to take everything I’ve learned throughout my career and apply it in new ways.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My career definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Working in radio and media for nearly 20 years meant constantly adapting as the industry changed, whether that was changes in technology, social media, audience habits, or the way content is created and consumed.

One of the biggest challenges was learning how to evolve without losing what made me successful in the first place. Over the years, my role became much bigger than simply being on the radio. I had to learn production, voiceover, content creation, brand partnerships, social media, live events and a number of other skills in order to stay relevant and continue growing.

Most recently, the biggest challenge came when my position was eliminated after spending nearly two decades with the same company. Going from having a career and routine I had known for most of my adult life to suddenly figuring out what comes next has definitely been an adjustment. At the same time, it has pushed me to reconnect with people, explore opportunities outside of traditional radio and think more broadly about how I can use my experience moving forward.

I think every challenge along the way has made me more adaptable, and right now I’m looking at this period as an opportunity to build the next chapter of my career.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve spent most of my career in radio and media. I was on the air for nearly 20 years, mostly at B95 in Fresno, but over the years I ended up doing a lot more than just being on the radio. I’ve done voiceover work, interviews, live events, endorsements, podcasting, content and production.

The biggest thing for me has always been connecting with people. I never wanted to sound like I was talking at an audience. I wanted it to feel like a real conversation, whether that was on the radio, at an event, during an interview or online.

I’m proud that I was able to do so many different things throughout my career and work with a lot of different people and brands. I’ve also had my voice heard in different cities, which is still pretty cool to think about.

I think what sets me apart is that I know how to be myself and still understand what the job needs. I can be entertaining, professional when I need to be, represent a brand and still make it feel natural.

How do you think about luck?
I think luck has definitely played a role in my career, especially with timing and being in the right place at the right time. Radio is one of those industries where an opportunity can come from who you meet, who happens to hear you, or a position opening up at the right moment.

At the same time, I don’t think luck means much if you’re not ready when the opportunity comes. I was lucky to get certain chances, but I still had to prove myself, keep improving and stay consistent over a long period of time.

There’s also been some bad luck along the way, especially with how much the radio industry has changed and eventually having my position eliminated. But even that has pushed me to look at other opportunities and figure out what I want to do next.
