Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Mason.
Jonathan, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started shooting photography during my senior year at Garden Grove high school. My teacher in yearbook taught me the basics to taking pictures. After graduation I had to turn in all my gear but still stayed shooting with my iPhone. 3 years ago I got my first camera the canon sl1 from my girlfriend for an anniversary present it was later that year I decided to make it a side gig. My first payed gig was to shoot a cover band in a bar for 30 bucks. Good times!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I take a bunch of photos ranging from landscape of my travels to beautiful portraits of my friends and family. I chose to shoot photography because it’s a way for me to clear my mind and get creative. Picking up a camera has forced to get out house and really see the world. I get inspiration from other photographers and their knowledge of new techniques that they use in their work. The overall message is do more of what makes you happy. I hope people see my work and it makes them want to go out and explore their city because the world is really a beautiful place.
The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Financial struggles are going to happen. I’m always caught in the position of wanting to upgrade my gear. Make the best use of what you got. Also if your art is what your passionate about then money is never wasted when you invest it in yourself.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can see my work on Instagram @j_mason or my website jmasonphotgraphy.com
If you want to support you can buy prints or just give me a follow on IG and let me know you found me in this article. I’d be pretty excited to hear that.
