Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexington Hartman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lexington. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started playing around with makeup when I was 10 years old. When I graduated high school, I knew that a traditional 9-5 wasn’t for me, so I went to cosmetology school. I found out the hard way that I didn’t like doing hair… but I LOVED doing makeup! After I graduated from cosmo school, I had a hard time turning my passion for cosmetics into a career. As much as I loved makeup, I never liked applying makeup on other people. In the meantime, I started posting my makeup looks on Instagram. As my follower count grew, I realized I could start getting paid for posts! I also discovered my love for video creation and the entire editing process. I do currently work part-time at Sephora, but Instagram is now my primary source of income.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been difficult at times. The money and jobs are not always consistent, and I have to come up with something new to post every single day. It’s basically a full-time job. I’ll spend 3+ hours doing makeup, and another 2+ hours editing a video. I spend a lot of my weekends inside working on my content. My advice to someone attempting to become an influencer is to be persistent. It’s very hard to stay motivated, but it will all be worth it in the end!
Please tell us about Looks By Lexington.
I am a beauty influencer specializing in video content creation. Brands contact me to promote their products, I send them my rates, and we write up a contract explaining what I’ll be promoting and how much I’ll be paid. I’ve worked with some really great brands such as Forever 21 and Benefit Cosmetics! Instagram is great because it’s like a huge virtual portfolio. When a brand looks at my page they can see that I am fun and bubbly, unlike most Instagram personalities. I am very proud of my finished videos because I always give 100%!
Who have you been inspired by?
Instagram has been my biggest source of inspiration. I am able to see beautiful work from women all over the world every single day. I have made so many amazing friends through social media.
