Conversations with the Inspiring Katelyn McCullough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn McCullough.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Katelyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Elwynn + Cass is a beauty concierge service and my mother and I started our business based on personal experience in trying to get ready for events. Trying to find hair and makeup artists who could do the look and vibe we were going for and finding that there are 100+ options. It was exhausting trying to find out who was going to be right for us individually, and after graduating college, we thought that having a service that could match the artists best suited to you and the look you are going for, would be so much easier. From there, Elwynn + Cass was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has certainly not been a smooth road and I don’t think any business owner would say that building a business is. Some of our struggles have been akin to “growing pains”, like adapting to clients, as each one has different personalities and needs/wants, but also in trying to attract those ideal clients. It’s something that’s a constant growth process and you just need to realize that as you grow, things change and you have to come to terms with what you actually want for your business and where you want it to grow.

Don’t look at the little mishaps or struggles as failures in the present, rather look at the bigger picture and see how it can help you in building your business long term.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Elwynn + Cass story. Tell us more about the business.
Elwynn + Cass, LLC is a Beauty Concierge Service with a focus on luxury beauty planning for clients and events. We started our business to take all the stress and guesswork out of organizing beauty services, such as matching the artists best suited to the client based on the experience they are looking for. We wanted the focus to be on the experience and how the client wants to feel since we started the company based on personal experience and found that there was a lot of time and stress in determining who to go to for beauty services. It’s the beauty experience a client deserves to have.

What we do is meant to be a luxury experience, but not necessarily in price point. It really is all about feeling like a person with an experience that is completely your own and not being treated like a number.

Our business is the first beauty planning company created and that makes us really proud to be able to make unforgettable experiences for our clients.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I think the biggest barriers to female leadership come from within. Being a leader in any industry or business comes from self-confidence and believing in oneself. To be successful at anything, you to have undeniable confidence that you will achieve your desired goal, even amongst the hardships and struggles. Really, females just have to believe they can make their dreams happen and rather than overthinking things or making excuses, get out there and do it.
