Meet Trailblazer Stephanie Bailey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Bailey.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Stephanie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for video production began in college, where I went to school at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. I earned my degree in Public Relations and Advertising. While in school, I enjoyed learning about video production as a powerful marketing tool and I knew that it was something I wanted to pursue as a career.

However, graduating from college during peak-recession years, my career path took a slightly different direction. I played collegiate golf at Gonzaga and I used my golf background to start organizing and running golf tournaments, which eventually lead to event planning. After many years as an event organizer, I began working for a lifestyle magazine as the Events and Marketing Director. I was responsible for directing event promotional material, which reignited my passion for video production and visual story telling.

When my husband, Dustin and I got married, we decided that we wanted to start our own business together. We kept finding ourselves working on video passion projects and quickly realized video production was something we wanted to pursue full-time. With Dustin’s background in Architectural Photography and mine in Event Management, we both bring a wide breadth of knowledge and unique experiences to our business. One of the things we love most about working together is that our personal strengths (and weaknesses) compliment the other’s really well.

Since starting Bailey Films in San Diego, we’ve had the opportunity to get to know other local businesses in the area and support their individual marketing efforts. We love joining forces with other companies to tell their story in a personal and unique way through video.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Following your dreams and passions certainly comes with its own unique challenges. When you first start your business, you are constantly doing “gut checks” to make sure that each potential project and client is a good fit.

My biggest piece of advice would be that it’s okay to say: “No thank you” in order to keep your company on brand and aligned with your core values. Steering your business in the direction that you want it to grow means that sometimes you turn away a potential client who is not a good fit. Your business will forever be evolving and changing, which is a good thing! Don’t be afraid to try something new and make mistakes along the way.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bailey Films – what should we know?
I am the co-owner of Bailey Films and together with my husband (and our dog Penny), we run a creative video production studio.

We specialize in working closely with other businesses to tell their stories in a captivating way. We really take the time to get to know our clients, understand their brand and bring fresh ideas to help them achieve their goals.

Many of our clients are now our friends and they would describe us as being friendly, easy to work with and that we never shy away from hard work (or the dessert menu).

We understand the importance of quick turn around and we pride ourselves on getting projects out the door fast, without sacrificing quality. Our shooting and editing style is unique and it allows us to tell a story with purpose while capturing emotion.

We are passionate about the videos we create. the relationships we build and the success of the businesses we partner with. At the end of the day, the most fulfilling part of our job is seeing our clients succeed.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think one of the biggest barriers facing women in leadership roles is fierce independence, to a fault. I know without a doubt, I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for incredible female mentors and business owners helping me and encouraging me along my own journey.

Make an effort to reach out to and connect with other women around you for support, guidance, and advice. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I feel incredibly privileged to regularly work alongside inspiring and successful female leaders in our local community.
