Check out Jennifer Biggers’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Biggers.

Jennifer, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always been a doodler. I’m a self-taught hand lettering artist who loves DIY projects, handmade cards, and snail mail. I started lettering as a way to make my cards or gifts to friends stand out. I next dabbled in addressing wedding envelopes. This was a ton of fun, and then I had twin boys. Having children, I wanted to explore other creative ways to capture their milestones, which I did via chalkboard signage. One hashtag led to another, and I have been fortunate to create signage that reflects milestones, love stories, and family traditions for others. I continue to do this type of art form because it is therapeutic and it brings me so much joy to see others happy.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create signage on various forms of medium. The most popular types of signage I create are milestone chalkboards and custom signs for weddings. There are specific moments we don’t want to forget (e.g., your child’s first words or their favorite foods, your wedding day, etc.), and having a piece of art that captures all those memorable moments of a day or a time period is priceless. I want people to cherish and celebrate the moment, and I’m beyond grateful and humbled to be a part of their celebrations.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Start small by sharing your craft with family and friends as they will be your biggest supporters and will refer you to everyone they know. Word of mouth is still very powerful-make friends in the community (e.g. local businesses and event planners) and stay loyal to the true few who will invest in your work. Don’t forget the power of a hashtag and the importance of having patience-remember why you do it in the first place. Art is very therapeutic and it has brought balance to my life. So, create art that makes you happy, and if it brings joy to others as well, then that’s a plus
