Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Garcia.
Victoria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had the talent to see a picture and create the same hairstyle. I really love the creativity! Ive been doing hair since I was a teenager for all my friends and anytime anyone wanted their hair done! I found my passion for wedding hair and after some amazing help from some amazing women in the industry I was on a roll! Wedding every weekend! I worked in different agencies and salons but only to go in and do wedding hair! Updos are my specialty! I joke that my goal in life is to change the common perception of the awful tight 90’s prom updo image that immediately pops into everyone’s head the minute they hear undo! I love the love stories involved in weddings and the fun “getting ready” excitement. It’s very fulfilling to see the look on a brides face when she sees her hair and can’t believe her hair could look so full and gorgeous! My “job” is just a small part of the big day but it’s so meaningful to know that the bride feels so beautiful! Doing hair for me is in my blood, it’s who I am.
Has it been a smooth road?
It is hard when you are juggling a family like I am, a mother of 3 and a wife. I feel like I’m always working, so doing hair using my talents and creating art sometimes I feel like the hair is my masterpiece.. it drives me! I work late at night when everyone’s asleep and answer emails. My advice that was given to me by one of my first mentors in the wedding industry is some of the best advice ever and it helped me get clients. It’s to answer the initial request or inquiries asap within 20 minutes, sounds nuts but an alert on my phone and a template email that I can add a few personalized answers to their questions – I always hear thank you for the promo response. most brides are shopping see a picture and send an email if you answer first it really means something to them it shows you will be attentive. Be on time! Be on time! And always dress professional, get your nails done, dress nice and do your hair!!! Respect your clients and be professional, smile and be friendly. Lastly, study your craft, continue to learn, take classes, watch YouTube, stretch and grow, don’t get stuck in a rut of the same styles.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Victoria G Hair Design story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a wedding hairstylist, specializing in updos. I do big sexy hair and Hollywood glam red carpet waves! Boho braids and boho updos. I am also very good with mothers of the bride and senior styles making them feel comfortable and understanding their look! I am very diverse in my styling, I always say I can do anything! I am most proud of that – I am very diverse, I can do any type of hair texture. I can duplicate any picture too. What sets me apart is I am fast! I can do are parties of 11 or 16 and everyone looks awesome! On my reviews, everyone says they can’t believe how fast I am.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
So many women have been instrumental in my life, I must say my mother is number one because she does hair too, she’s got the talent that flows thru my veins! I grew up watching her do hair in our house. Also, I’ve been inspired by a few amazing makeup artists that I can call friends. They have encouraged me more than anyone! They have told me how good I am and given me so much confidence! My website, my way of operating is all because a few amazing makeup artists that were willing to spend the time to help me get going on my own in the wedding biz!
