Meet Trina Pham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trina Pham.

Trina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I romanticize my life and everything around me. I am also forgetful. Because of that, I tend to take photos and create images and videos of how I perceive something or the world. I’ve been fascinated with the photography medium since I was young. My father always carried around a camera wherever we went to capture memories. I decided to take that a step further and began thinking about concepts of how I can manipulate the image to affect the viewer.

I started filmmaking in 2014. I was drawn to how lights and cameras could make people feel a certain way. I started making my way to directing in 2016. I directed two short experimental films which made me crave to do more art pieces. Since the moment I became obsessed with filmmaking, I have made dramas, documentaries, experimental films, and an animation. I am always looking forward to the next project I can be apart of, whether that be photography or film.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Visions collide and frequently wanting to be better than before. Everyone has their ups and downs to the road of their career.

Please tell us about Trina Pham.
For photography, I often use film to capture. There is this moment, using the format, that makes every move slower and careful. Since there are only a select amount of exposures you can take, what you are taking photos of needs to be thought out. As for film and video, I am most known for camera work, creating the image, telling them a story with the use of cinematography. I can also direct because it’s another creative outlet I like to dabble with. Along with directing, I produce. I am familiar with the film world, therefore, I like to take part in many positions. As long as I can affect people when they view my work, I have done my part in society.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
It’s hard to say because like I said, I’m pretty forgetful. But right now, I remember one time I was eating cereal at my grandmother’s house. I was sitting in front of the window with my back faced towards it. Light illuminated the dining area. I accidentally spilled my milk. I was terrified my mom would yell and spank me. However, she just smiled and cleaned it up. It was an odd feeling because it was something I didn’t expect.
