Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubree Lynn.
Aubree, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had an eye for style, when I was 4 telling my teacher Mrs. Lisa, “I like you but I don’t like your pants.” This was the beginning of an immediate connection to the art of styling. At age 13, I was exposed to modeling for a local show at my church when I decided that I loved the rush of being behind the scenes, this is where I took up Production and Styling. I graduated from Fashion Careers College in 2008 with a Fashion Business Degree, this is where I enhanced my abilities and interned with Tanya McAnear (now Owner of Bad Madge in South Park) as her Assistant Producer. This lead to opportunities such as a show with Zac Posen and coordinating with Peoples Revolution for N.Y. Fashion Week in 2008 to assist designer Lela Rose on her show.
I currently have my own business Stylishly Aubree Lynn, as a Fashion Advisor. Since 2010, I have also accumulated the role as a writer in the LifeStyle section for San Diego’s Presidio Sentinel.
After college, I had worked with Leonard Simpson “Style Guy” on his Fashion Forward team for over 2 years putting on charity shows around San Diego and one of two leads for 11 years as a model, stylist, and producer of an annual church fashion show and costumed their 2009 Christmas Production.
Styling for magazines like 944, Pacific, and working with Photographers such as Andrew Reilly on the set of shoots including Toyota Venza promo, working with Blinkit Photography styling Celebrities (Darren Darnborough and Amelia Jackson-Gray), and this past year working with Designer’s such as Oseas Villatoro, Territa Torres, Artemisa Rivas and Lizz Russell are just some of the current names that I have either Styled, Produced with and have worn their brand to events like FWSD while giving them much PR in my column for the Presidio Sentinel.
I am currently working on my YouTube channel where I get to speak on style, events, and interview designers. These past 5 months, I have been working exclusively with Designer Territa Torres styling her lookbook for Las Vegas Fashion Week and on her new Maternity line coming out in Summer 2018. I approached her this year on a few maternity looks as I am pregnant and since then we have been collaborating. We are doing a few maternity shoots and I have had the amazing opportunity to wear her new line and give her press throughout this transition of Ready to Wear Designer to approaching this new market of Pregnant Wear and it has been a blast.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When you do what you love the passion of the craft pulls you through. I have never had a hard time in this industry or being accepted or liked, the hardest part is finding clientele and a job in San Diego. Los Angeles and New York takes the fashion world by storm, so finding jobs in the industry is not as hard to come by. Here in SD, everyone knows everybody and it is a small knit community, though finding full-time work doing this craft is a struggle that I wish was eliminated. The price you pay for living in San Diego, I guess? I want to do this as a full-time career, styling and producing, I have been able to have careers in creative fields like Marketing, Social Media, PR and Events which has helped my desire to fulfill some of my passions but there is nothing like the craft you were born to do.
I advise new women starting in this field to be patient and go after every opportunity given because you never know where it might lead, never burn bridges because you never know who they might know and you want to keep your integrity and character on an above reproach level, always keep things professional and truly care about the work that you do. It shows when you have a love for the clients, people, designers and celebrities you work with.
What should we know about Stylishly Aubree Lynn? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My main work is styling and production though in these past few years I have found myself working with Designers of Fashion Week SD collaborating with them on garments to wear to events I attend and in return writing about them and promoting their work on and through my social media sites including my YouTube. I am known as a stylist mostly that encompasses writing and being press for events for the Presidio Sentinel.
I am proud of all the people I have been able to work with and encourage through styling and even being able to write about new and established designers alike to give them the PR they deserve.
I have an art in pulling clothing and accessories together whether it be on set for a shoot or in a clients presence. The joy of making clients and celebrities alike feel good about their body no matter what size or shape they are because beauty and a well-dressed individual is the canvas of everyone. I love to rework clothing to find outfits in your closet that make you feel like new again. I have confidence in my analysis of body type and coloring and it is something you can use forever. My passion and a strong influence of creativity will make you feel good about what you put on and enhance your social lifestyle.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Going to school in the city that you will be working as really helped me. Knowing the ins and outs of the SD Fashion Industry and the heavy hitters who I respect it has been a big blessing. You take out what you put in. I feel confident about who I am in my Professional endeavors and know I have a good base around me.
I would again just volunteer, intern, do what you need to do to understand what it takes and build your resume. It is about who you know but without the attributes of a go-getter, you can’t get much further than that of a person who doesn’t know the ‘in crowd’ so to speak. People are pretty genuine and you will get a sense of who and where to network once you go to the spots where your passion is being held. Go to events, meetups around town involving your fields and start socializing, bring your card and get to know the people around you, connections will take place.
