Today we’d like to introduce you to Padgett Mason.
Padgett, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
All my life I’ve been influenced by art and been drawn to creating my own. My parents were both creative. My father was a painter and jeweler. My Mom made beautiful Stained Glass. They were members of the Mineral and Gem Society in Spanish Village, so I was often at the Village as a young girl.
It’s a dream come true to now be a member of Spanish Village and thrive in this wonderful artist community. I pursed my passion for Art in college and earned a B.A. in Art at San Diego State University. For the past twenty years, I’ve been working as a professional Artist. My work is in many homes throughout the U.S. and abroad…
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a painter, mostly acrylics, but I do like to explore other mediums as well. My work has been referred to as unique, fresh and whimsical. Color is a big part of my work and I use a lot of bright colors. My favorite subjects are cats. I just love their personalities and beautiful lines. I do pet portraits, in realistic or whimsical style. My portraits have usually Cats and Dogs, but I have had varying commissions including a goat, rabbits, chicks, cows, horses, gecko and even a fish.
I have been creating my Funky Feline characters for the past 12 years. They bring much joy to me and I love to see the smiles they spark in others. My inspiration comes from the love I have for critters. Growing up I was in 4-H and had many animals. We raised Goats, Rabbits and Chickens Now a city gal I am down to beautiful Cats as pets.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Stay true to yourself. Meaning, don’t let others do you derail you. I had a professor in college give me a harsh criticism about my subject matter of cats. He found it to lack deep meaning. I feel the work I do with clients capturing their pets has great meaning. It’s rewarding to see the reactions. The love people have for their animal is incredibly important. I feel that it is at times difficult to stay true to what you love and are passionate about
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
