Conversations with the Inspiring Donnya Negera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donnya Negera.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Modeling has always been a dream of mine, but it was time to make that dream into a reality. I started connecting with photographers, designers, and models in my hometown, Boston, MA. and realized that I was actually great at it. There was a bit of a hiatus because of school, and I had a baby, but that dream still keeps me going.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. Before starting, I always thought that I could not model because of how immodest photoshoots can get. I am religious, and the thought of that daunted on me. As I got older, I decided for myself that I should not let that stop me from at least trying. I also knew that I have my agency to decline shoots that may seem inappropriate to me. I also stopped model because I was in college… in Idaho! I figured that there would not be enough talented individuals who would work out in Idaho out of all places, but I was wrong. Talent has no geographic boundaries. I later found out that there were tons of photographers around me, but I wasn’t looking. Lastly, I got married and had a child. Starting a family definitely made things different because I had to prioritize my time, which meant less modeling. But I didn’t feel myself, so I eventually started modeling! I even took my daughter with me sometimes, and she is a model now. Crazy how life works out.

Some advice for young women starting their modeling career: Go after what you want. Do not let anything stop you from accomplishing your dreams. But also be smart. Do not lose yourself in the midst of trying to make it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Donnya Negera- Model story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a mother first. A wife, and a model. I have a YouTube channel called “Millennial Mommy” where I discuss topics on motherhood, and how to take care of your child’s hair. Surprisingly, people love watching my daughter, so I will continue helping other mothers. I also model whenever I can, simply because of my daughter. I specialize in showing that as a millennial, one can truly have it all. These days, we are stuck in the belief that a woman either has to have a family or have a career. But no, you can have both. You can accomplish your goals, and still, love and raise your family. My brand is all about empowering women, especially mothers because we tend to feel forgotten and left behind when it comes to raising a family. Dont forget about yourself.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I love reading books on self-improvement. Books that help expand the mind, and places things into perspective. Right now, I am reading ” Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert T. Kiyosaki. I need books like these because I need to re-evaluate how I want to live my life.
