Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Ortiz.
Sandra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a self-taught tattoo and permanent makeup artist. I started tattooing in 2002. I knew I needed to improve my skills and keep current with all the new techniques, so I started taking courses a few years back. I’ve been to a few different countries with my favorite Masters learning all the new techniques. I feel I’ve been very lucky in life to get to do what I love. My passion is art and brows are a form of art.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Taking classes can get very expensive. My first course, I had to work 12 hour days for weeks and ask for a loan from my grandma. The day of the seminar, I stood outside the door for a few minutes thinking of all the things that needed to be fixed at home and how I could give a down payment on a car with that money instead. My husband walked by and said what are you still doing out here go take your class. I’m very fortunate to have him on my side.
My advice is always to invest in you. Having a partner that believes in you and cheers you on, helps too.

I think my specialty is my microblading technique.
I try to follow the natural hair growth of the brow and mimic it to give my client a full beautiful brow and I’m very proud of that.
I think what sets me apart is that alot of permanent makeup artists have backgrounds in cosmetology and I’m a tattoo artist. My favorite style is realism and I try to make brow strokes as realistic as possible.
Who have you been inspired by?
My inspiration has been my grandmother. She raised my mom on her own and put her thru school on her own. She helped my mom raise and support 3 kids. She’s my role model of what a strong, loving, unconditional, independent woman looks like.
