Today we’d like to introduce you to Trish Pavlecich.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am an advertising copywriter by trade but I have always loved pursuing passion projects of different kinds. Whether it be art, short stories or short films, creating something that didn’t exist before it came out of my brain is immensely gratifying to me.
I grew up all over the country and overseas and finally moved to Encinitas 7 years ago, where I live today. Having met a variety of people in my life, I have grown to love and deeply respect the things that make us different and also the same. And most of the stories I tell (through a variety of expressions) are an illustration of that notion.
The documentary Not Kidding was created to shed some light on the many
misconceptions that surround women that don’t have kids. Their voices deserve to be heard and their stories celebrated. There are such a variety of reasons and turn of events that lead them to this circumstance and it’s important to express this notion.
Women without kids are misrepresented in the media and social and healthcare policies, so the more attention we can bring to the misunderstood demographic the better.
Whether their decision not to have kids is by choice or chance, it’s inconsiderate to assume who they are and why. Although all the women in the film obviously have one thing they have in common. The film is really about how different they all are not just in a traditional demographic way, but also in their personal journeys and unique perspectives.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Pursuing passion projects is not always a financially viable way to live. It’s been tough to balance work that pays with work that does not.
Being sensitive to people feelings and making sure to give a voice to the opposite side of the story is also challenging.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Independent Documentary: Not Kidding – what should we know?
Although this is my film partner and I’s first documentary together, I think there are many more in the queue We both work independently as well. Bettina is an editor and DP. And I am a writer and producer.
We create video content of all kinds. From internal videos to social media content and traditional commercials, it’s rewarding to help individuals and company’s stories come to life.
We work in a male-dominated industry so I think we offer a fresh perspective, we are pretty fast at what we do and we like to get our hands dirty when the time calls for it.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Most of the people I’ve worked with have inspired me in one way or another. I’ve worked with a lot of crazy smart and creative souls. My parents are incredibly supportive and have always backed me following my passion projects.
I love working with Bettina. It’s so easy and we respect each other’s opinions and talents. We are living proof that women work well together.
