Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Sanderson.
Taylor, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am the daughter of two professional photographers. When most children had dolls or toy trucks, I had hand-me-down cameras. As soon as I could walk, I was taking pictures, and I haven’t stopped since. After being rooted in creativity and given the best training genetics can buy, photography became my passion. This led me to study Media with an emphasis in photography at the University of California, San Diego. Now I am a full time photographer. Being a photographer isn’t just a job for me, its part of who I am.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
With my photographs, I elicit the feeling of one pausing for a breath and observing the texture and details of the present moment. My photography draws inspiration from artists like Alexander Rodchenko, who dared people to look at the world differently with his fantastically abstract photographs, and Henri Cartier Bresson, who captured images at precisely the right instant. Like these images, mine encourage viewers to linger and appreciate the beauty, form, and rhythm of moments, from ordinary to extraordinary. Whether I am in an exotic destination or in my own backyard, I am looking for serendipitous instants of unique beauty to share with the world.
The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Perseverance is key. Being an artist is challenging, but there are few things more rewarding. You never know when the next lucky break will happen, so just keep putting your work into the world as much as possible.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
