Art & Life with Caity Marie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caity Marie.

Caity, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
When I was in middle school, I remember using my mom’s basic Canon to do mini photo shoots, practicing on my little sister, but never being really serious about it. It was such a fun time, but I never would’ve imagined having my own photography business eight years later. Fast forward to my senior year of high school. I took a photography class and had the most supportive teacher ever. Her name is Mrs. McAllister, and she constantly encouraged my “eye” for the shot, photo editing, etc. because she saw the passion I had for it. She wanted to stand behind me to encourage me to pursue what I was good at, and that really helped launch my confidence in the craft of photography. I shot my first wedding in 2013, and now I’ve second shot three weddings, shot 3 of my own, and have done countless others, including maternity, family, portrait, and couple sessions. I created my logo a couple of months ago and just launched my website. It’s felt like a long time coming, but I am so appreciative of everyone who has hired me, supported me, and really become good friends through this process. I can’t wait to see where this craft takes me, and who it takes me to. My goal is to always have my clients become my friends, and I believe that photography is a great way to cultivate that.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a portrait and lifestyle photographer! My editing process has changed over the years, but the “themes” that I have always aimed to capture are originality, comfort, and genuine joy. No matter the shoot, I believe everyone has something that makes them original.

I strive to make the photos speak of who they are as a person. In addition to that, I always want the clients comfortable. I’m not down to make someone pose in a way that doesn’t feel right. I love to come alongside my clients and make them feel how they would feel in their own home, regardless of the location where we shoot. Lastly, I want to capture joy. Whether it’s a wedding day, someone is having a baby, someone just got engaged, etc., all of life’s moments have joy within them. That is the most important thing to me…creating an experience, so when clients look back at their photos, they’re able to tangibly feel joy from the day of our shoot.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities, and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
This is something that I feel like all artists deal with, so know that you are not alone. At the end of the day, art will always be worth the finances. If you love something, like how I love photography, there are ways to accomplish your goals without breaking the bank. If you’re just starting out, surround yourself with a community that can edify you in times of growth and support you in times that are not so easy! Community has been KEY for me throughout my photography journey! When you put your heads together, you are bound to figure out ways to get through financial struggles!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I would love to set up a shoot with you if you’re looking for someone who can share your vision with you! I’m ready to come alongside you to help you experience a shoot like one you’ve never experienced before!
