Art & Life with Tasha Bock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Bock.

Tasha, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have loved art my whole life and grew up with what my family dubbed “the project room” – a large and airy room filled with art supplies with which to experiment and explore. I then formally studied art in London for a year and again as an undergraduate at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Art was always what I did for fun, getting lost in the act of creating, but it never occurred to me that I would do it as a career.

The week of my college graduation my Dad was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. I returned home from school with the intention of spending as much time as possible with him. It was a stressful and tumultuous period, filled with sweet and sad, happy and horrible moments. Painting became my personal solace and way of finding beauty and purpose in the process of creating something beautiful.

I spent the next year and a half painting coastal scenes (based off of my Dad’s and my happy place—the beach!). As paintings began stacking up, I decided to host a show of my work to successful results! From there, the ball started rolling and I jump on any opportunity to grow my business and share my art with others.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My paintings are inspired by the magic moments in the world around us. Golden sunshine, pink clouds, the countless blues of the ocean, the juicy tones of a ripe orange. Through oil paint, I hope to celebrate color, revel in light, invite happiness and pause for appreciation. I hope my art brings a recreated and remembered joy, beauty and delight to others!

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Art is a challenging business, and can feel very daunting and intimidating. In order to make it a viable career, you have to put yourself out there, follow up and promote yourself. The logical place to start is by showing your work to your existing network of friends and family. Every painting you sell is a calling card for a future client. You need to have a thick skin, a love of creating, perseverance and endurance! Don’t expect to make the same amount of money as people working in jobs like finance when you first start out—but remember you are choosing the path you are passionate about!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
The easiest way to see my artwork is to visit my website: www.TashaBock.com and join my email subscriber list to receive occasional behind-the-scenes studio updates. Nothing makes me happier than when someone wants to have my artwork in his or her home! I would love to share my paintings with you and would be honored if you purchase or commission a painting! Every time someone purchases one of paintings, my heart does a happy dance.
