Meet Danny Kim of CENTAURIC in La Jolla Shores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Kim.

Danny, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My path to becoming an organizational consultant has been complex and serendipitous. Over a decade ago, my intention was to follow after my father’s footsteps and become a medical doctor. Today, I find myself diagnosing challenges in organizations and providing innovative and collaborative solutions when success hangs in the balance.

After grad school, I knew I wanted to work with people, so I became a Career Coach at Point Loma Nazarene University. Two years later, Centauric and I found each other through a mutual connection, and I have been working with them ever since. My role is to support leaders and organizations at pivotal moments to gain clarity, create alignment, and take courageous action. I love what I do, but there is no way I would have dreamed about this role when I was planning out my career as a student in college.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I think early on, I gravitated to what I knew and what was secure for me. I thought to myself, “How do I make money and make an impact? Become a doctor!” But as the years went on, I had to do some soul-searching. I knew my greatest gift was to communicate using words.

The latter career trajectory was unknown and undefined. In some ways, I had to walk through the hero’s journey. Leaving what was comfortable and embarking on a new journey into the unknown. I would have never guessed in a million years that this is where I would be today, but I think I’m better for it. The variety of experiences I’ve had has set me up to be a better consultant, speaker, and facilitator.

CENTAURIC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At Centauric, we are a group of behavioral scientist and business experts who combine both head and heart into our consulting work. We understand the importance of leader behavior and development, and we do three things: gain clarity, create alignment, and help leaders take action. We work with organizations at pivotal moments and solve some of their greatest challenges.

We are proud to work with several different clients, from global real estate firms to wealth management companies to tech start-ups to rockstars. What sets us apart is that we have big firm experience but provide our services in a bespoke way. We customize what we do to deliver on the needs of our clients, and I think that’s what makes us unique.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am most proud of making my transition into the current role that I have. I left something that was extremely comfortable and known. I had friends and a great community at my previous job. But if I didn’t take this leap a year ago, I don’t think I would have grown the way I have.

I have been stretched to my limits: from getting negative feedback to pulling late nights to work on a proposal. I love the clients I work with, and I’m better because they are in my life. I love the people I serve and would do anything to ensure their success!
