Today we’d like to introduce you to Teny Chen.
Teny, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Graphic design has always been my passion. I took a class in high school, and it was love at first Photoshop. My focus is on digital, web, print, and video. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a graphic designer! I put different elements and content together to create an art piece. I use Adobe software apps to design my projects. I use HTML to develop a website and email campaigns. What I love most about graphic design is being creative and techy. There are a lot of complicated tools and steps to using the design programs. The apps are constantly being updated. A designer needs to keep up with the technology and the creative trends. I’ve worked in almost all industries: print, packaging, finance, tech, real estate, healthcare, beauty, fitness, etc. Every company needs good, solid design. The opportunities are infinite!
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
I moved to San Diego 1.5 years ago. When I moved, it was my first time freelancing full-time. It was difficult to be cooped up in my apartment all day and night, especially in a new city. I would go to coffee shops, but I was most productive at home. I found the best way to connect with others was through activities and sports. It’s not necessarily the best way to connect specifically to artists, but it’s still a great way to connect to people. I dance, and it’s a great creative outlet. After ten months, I finally found a full-time graphic design position at ecoATM | Gazelle. My current company has a great team of creatives to produce all our projects. I work very well with my supportive colleagues. I still freelance for the side hustle. I’m very happy with the creative, diverse direction of my graphic design career.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I have an online portfolio https://teny1010.com/, and I’m on Instagram @teny1010.c0m. I freelance my graphic design services. Holla if you want to collaborate. I don’t sell any of my artwork…yet. We’ll see what the future horizons bring!
