Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Lowery.
Diane, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Sometime in 1992, my husband introduced me to glassblowing. We both had been successful in other artistic expressions in the past, and yet this medium seemed intriguing and so much so that he immersed himself in learning the craft. The further he went into his quest the more convinced he was that this was something that we could do together, but it would require complete commitment to the building and maintaining of a studio as well as a commitment to developing and maturing as glass artists. We secured our current location in March of 1995 and since that time have created thousands of pieces of custom art glass products. Through the years our work has been presented in over 400 galleries across the United States as well as in thousands of homes, offices and corporate environments.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
After several years of producing decorative art which included the classic shapes of bowls, vases, platters, and paperweights we turned our focus to art glass lighting. It began with a series of table lamps and from there expanded to wall sconces, pendants and chandeliers. There is a warmth and soulfulness that illuminates from our work creating not just beauty, but indeed an ambiance that is quite unique and welcoming in any environment.
The real joy, however, takes place in the relationships that are born during the collaborative work of custom projects. The clients are able to choose their color schemes, styles, shapes, and sizes of their lighting. From traditional to transitional, contemporary to old world, Lowery’s art glass lighting is a viable addition.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Well, I think we can all agree that it’s essential to be able to afford to be an artist. For most of us, that means, we need to sell our work. So, the challenge then becomes being an entrepreneur in addition to feeding into that internal, driving desire to create something. These two issues are quite demanding and call for serious commitment. I feel it is essential to be committed to the process of creating. That’s the essential to success; commitment. One must look at every aspect of their lives as an opportunity to create something new. Always moving forward, growing, maturing and learning and not being afraid to fail from time to time. It’s in the squeeze that we grow the most. To me, this defines a successful artist.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
