Meet Piatt Pund

Today we’d like to introduce you to Piatt Pund.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Piatt. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started out playing the classical violin at age four. It was very difficult to learn and I didn’t see the use for it in the future. I then began playing professionally at age 11 and realized that this is what the violin gave me: and output for emotion and soul. I was born in Boulder, CO and was very much shaped by the environment of Folk and Americana out there. With my parents separating when I was eight years old, music became my output for my emotion learning guitar and ukulele as well. In 2013, my family and I moved to San Diego, CA. I started out by playing Cafes every Saturday and Sunday mornings to increase my experience and build up a following. I did that for a few years and became a part of the local rock band, The Go Heads.

When I went to high school, things changed dramatically for me. I then became a part of the theater community starting out with High School Musical at CYT as the role of Ryan. I instantly fell in love with the community and I have been doing shows ever since. Credits include Bring It On (Randall, SDMT), Newsies (Moonlight Amphitheater), The Little Mermaid (Moonlight Amphitheater), Beauty and The Beast (Gaston, MYT), The Test (Perry, Coronado Playhouse), and Les Miserables (Marius, JCC). These shows have seriously helped me as a performer and I try to incorporate that into my shows and performances. With this, I decided to widen my musical abilities and I became a part of the award-winning Mission Bay Preservationists playing jazz violin and singing. This group has brought many amazing opportunities for me including touring to New Orleans and Japan. I expanded with the jazz recently and joined the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory and have begun studying bebop and more modern styles of jazz. I plan in the next year to apply for college and I hope to go to New York City for education in Musical Theater and Music. I see in my future to tour with a show or a band and to release albums and act in musical theater. I believe there is no excuse when it comes to doing what you love. There is nothing else I can do besides music and performing so I hope that with hard work and perseverance that my dream will come true.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The main struggle I have encountered was my parent’s separation at age eight. Having to deal with that became a difficult task at a young age especially with being homeschooled completely until the age of 8. I found comfort and direction with music, which dramatically improved my attitude about life and what I could accomplish.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Piatt Pund Music – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company is Piatt Pund Music: actor, musician, and singer. I specialize in entertainment and using my talents as opportunities come along. I am most proud of the professional shows I have been a part of such as The Little Mermaid and Newsies at Moonlight Amphitheater. What sets me apart from others is my abilities with my instruments. I found that playing my instruments at auditions and such dramatically increased my chances for booking roles because it showed my personal uniqueness and touch.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to attend college — hopefully in New York City — a study musical theater and music. I will most likely go on tour for a few years with theater shows and bands, experiencing the world and learning new things. I am very much looking forward to my education and becoming the best I can possibly be.
