Conversations with Emily Meyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Meyers.

Hi Emily, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve eaten a plant-based diet my entire life and felt inspired to share with others just how easy and nourishing it can be! I believe that eating well should not be expensive, time-consuming, or difficult. Most importantly, I think it should be delicious! I started my recipe website in 2017 and am grateful to have learned a lot along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first started a website, I truly knew NOTHING about operating a successful, SEO-optimized platform. On top of that, my photos were, let’s say, not the best. I don’t judge myself for this, as we all start somewhere, but learning the mechanics of creating a user-friendly website took a good amount of time. I actually took some jobs in digital marketing to really get a full education there!

Food photography is my favorite creative outlet, and I’ve been fortunate to take some courses that helped my hone in on my particular style. My preferred style of imagery leans “moody,” with heavy shadows and bright pops of color. Sometimes I will still photograph an entire dish and not be happy with how the photos turn out – it’s all part of the process.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in creating nourishing plant-based recipes that have a focus on fun. Bringing enjoyment back into your cooking routine is what I truly value. I post many recipes for easy dinners, cozy desserts, and unique cocktails/mocktails.

My content leans heavily on nostalgia; I even have a searchable tag for this available on my website’s homepage. Many of us forget how to truly enjoy our food when faced with time constraints and pressures to eat “the right thing.” My goal is to assist my readers in preparing meals that make them feel their best. Every recipe I produce is vegan, and any have options for gluten-free.

That being stated, I am proud that my content does not enforce labels. I do not believe in judging others for their food choices, nor do I have any rules around my diet. This is the healthiest way I’ve found to cook, and hope it inspires others to do the same.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As the first child of my family, I stereotypically loved learning and going to school. I enjoyed (and still enjoy) being very active and on the move. I still love reading and spending time outdoors. I am naturally a fairly anxious person, so these activities (along with cooking!) really help me manage that.
