Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Resch.
Hi Gina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The idea behind Make Me Up came from a post holiday party discussion. Everyone was chatting about how they love getting their hair blown out at their salons and it was so convenient. I agreed but I thought there was so much more value in getting your makeup done professionally. Why isn’t there a studio that you can have a professional makeup experience for an affordable price? Most people only get their makeup done once in their life for their wedding day yet they will get a blow out once a week. How can we bring affordable glam to the community so we can normalize getting your makeup done for any occasion. Date night, head shots, events, day time birthdays, baby showers, homecoming, prom, you name it!
So the journey began.
Finding the space was KEY. Perfect location, perfect lighting. One of my partners in MMU is Delorine Jackson who happens to own the building. We talked about it and she loved the idea, she is fond of all Korean beauty and wants to continue to bring the beauty back to the village. Our visions aligned. Our other partner is Shirley Slee, she is also in real estate and interior design so I knew she would bring my vision to life. She knocked it out of the park.
Next was to find the professional makeup artists and curated unique makeup brands that are not part of the mega makeup stores. That was a process however we are so pleased with our makeup & skincare products that our artists use and we retail. Our brands are from all over the world. They are all unique in their own way. We have something for everyone and every age.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is never a smooth ride. We have had many challenges along the way. Luckily we are solution driven people and we see the positive in everything. We have had some customs issues with some of our brands and some brands we haven’t been able to source yet due to their own country regulations when dealing with the USA. It’s been interesting. Our artists are eclectic and incredibly talented women, finding them was not easy but we have created a great team!
As you know, we’re big fans of Make Me Up RSF . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Make Me Up RSF we offer affordable glam in the heart of Rancho Santa Fe Village. We have a beautiful and intimate studio with 8 stations and 5 curated makeup brands from all over the world. Our model is simple. Pick one of our 5 looks from our look book, sit back with a glass of champagne, and enjoy the process. When you are finished you will walk out feeling even more beautiful than when you walked in. You will feel connected to your artist and feel part of the MMU family.
We are very proud of our hand selected artists and the work they create. We are also lucky to work with such incredible makeup brands that have been very supportive of our new business.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important piece to our success is how the client feels when they walk in and out of our studio. We are focused on the client experience and that is why we have dialed in all the little details to make sure each woman feels incredibly special and most importantly happy with their experience and final look. It feels a bit nostalgic in our space, a small group of women gathering and chatting about their lives while being pampered. There is lots of laughter, which makes it fun to be around. We are continuing to build this community and keep it special.
