Meet Alexandra Seanez of CharlotteAni Photography in San Marcos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Seanez.

Alexandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started photography as a casual hobby about 4.5 years ago after my eldest child, Charlotte, was born. My backstory is I always used to oil paint, and that was my creative outlet my entire life. Once I had my daughter, I began to slowly realize that oil painting was no longer a practical reality for me. By the time I had my paints, brushes, and easel set up, it was pretty much time to change her diaper, feed her, or get her up from a nap. My husband realized what a huge role art played in my life, as I slowly slipped away from my ability to paint. So one Christmas, he bought me a cheap entry-level camera and the rest is history.

I named my business after my daughter because she was the reason for trying photography. No brushes to clean, nothing to set up. When I needed to be done, I would just turn off my camera and set it down. The best part of it all is having some amazing photos of our life to look back on.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With any career, there are up’s and down’s. For me, the biggest struggle was finding my “why” in photography while learning the perfect balance of my career and family life. Over the years, I have realized my passion lies with families and couples. Capturing those genuine and authentic moments for people to cherish for a lifetime. And most importantly, coming to terms with the fact that I’m allowed to say NO sometimes. Embracing the mentality that I don’t have to say yes to every single inquiry, and that I can choose sessions that really support my passion and “why” in photography. Allowing myself to take quality days off from work to spend with my family. But through all the struggles and learning hurdles I could not have done it without the support of my husband. He has been the greatest constant, my biggest supporter, and my biggest cheerleader.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the CharlotteAni Photography story. Tell us more about your work.
I am a San Diego based photographer who specializes in families and couples. I sometimes feel like a small fish in a big pond of amazing photographers, but I feel what really sets me apart is authentic captures and customer service. My goal is to create a seamless and amazing experience from the second I receive an inquiry. I am here to answer any questions, day or night, and to make this the best session for every client. I will go above and beyond for all my clients, and if they don’t feel that way then I haven’t done my job. At the end of every session, it is bittersweet. Bitter because the fun is over, but sweet because I have gained new friends and sometimes even friends that become family.

I have many complimentary services included upon booking. Consultations, Welcome Guides, Vendor Referrals, Online Personalized Styling Services, and access to my Client Closet (an array of clothes for any client to browse and borrow). I want this to be more than just an hour-long session. I want this to be an amazing experience!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not sure if I necessarily believe in “luck”, but rather a pathway that has resulted from my own actions. I have worked very hard. I am always trying to become a better person and a better photographer. I feel that by working hard and drawing from within has played a huge role in the success of my business. I will say, I have been extremely “lucky” to have such amazing support from friends, family and the community.
