Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick DeWit.
Patrick, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am originally from VA. I moved to San Diego in July of 2017. I have been playing drums since elementary school. I start a lot of sentences with “I.”
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I play drums, record vibrations in the air, and make weird electronic “music.”
I like to hit drums really hard and make people listening go through stages of being comfortable and uncomfortable.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Most artists, musicians and whatever people wanna call themselves selfishly want to become famous or rich or some combination of both. Those people suck.
People want to dance, and people want to sing along with easy to understand songs. They want to feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves.
I have been in politically charged bands my whole life. When I moved to CA, I found that people are way more chill than east coasters. There isn’t much to be upset about out here. I guess that’s why reggae is so popular.
I just play the shit out of the drums.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I play a lot around town. I am in the bands Lighterburns, Meadow, Emiliano, Hiddenspaces, Robocop Percocet, and a few more weird things I can’t remember right now.
