Today we’d like to introduce you to Ambika Thiagarajan.
Hi Ambika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
There was something about the Arts that constantly kept me captivated. I think what I really enjoy about it is how there is no definitive answer and that there is always something more than what the naked eye witnesses. It’s what got me started and it’s what’s still keeping me on my toes. The very fact that every visual has a mysterious element to it and I get the opportunity to create my own mystery is why I can’t stop painting, and will probably never stop.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I look back on my journey and can most definitely point out several bumps. I however perceive them as stepping stones that help me proceed in the direction I need to be pushed towards. It’s nearly impossible to grow and learn in the creative world if you don’t go through a few hassles yourself since it’s such an abstract process in itself.
Staying motivated and consistent is probably something that I continually have issues with. As a creator with a social media presence, I need to make sure my audience remain my supporters and feed them valuable content to appreciate them being there as I grow Artistically. It’s essential to not go ‘missing’ for too long at a stretch as followers may begin losing interest. This is something I work on daily as a lot of my studio practice is about sharing my story with the world.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create paintings on canvas that are modernistic and depict how I recognize the external world via the lens of what goes on internally. This could be heavy with emotion, my unstoppable thoughts, or a strange combination of the two. Being abstract with my work sets me so free that what I usually can’t communicate vocally, I can do so candidly on paper through color, texture, form and movement. I promised myself that no matter what happens in this career, I will be bold and trust my paints wholly to guide me to an area of strength and peace.
Creating unique and visually complex images are something I constantly strive to achieve in my work. The only goal is to devise new realities to dance around in spontaneously and fully.
