Check Out Caitlin Cohen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Cohen.

Hi Caitlin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been grooming now for almost 14 years. I worked at a small kennel in East county and a friend suggested I apply for a dog bathing position in Encinitas. I had no idea that I would fall in love with the pet industry. It’s shaped everything I do; it’s where I’ve met some of my best friends, had great experiences and I even met my wife Ashley! We are celebrating 13 years and just welcomed our first baby this spring. I opened Grooming Cohens in early 2019 and was supported by many loyal clients.

I started house call grooming to be available for the pets that just need to be done at home (especially cats). I Like the idea of being able to help clients that aren’t able to travel or have pets with needs that don’t fit into mobile grooming or shop settings. My clients mean the world to me. We survived 2020 because of them and they’re continuing to make my dream come true.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Because of my loyal clients, experience and maybe a bit of luck, my business has grown around the pandemic. I was happy to be available and offer grooming during most of the last year.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always loved the phrase, People Pets Planet. It’s fundamental in my personal and professional life. It reminds me that being a conscious consumer has a positive impact on our planet and that there are many ways we can lower our carbon impact. I lead a low waste lifestyle and put those practices into play through Grooming Cohens as much as possible. I use eco-friendly products that biodegrade and source from small businesses in the USA. Little steps lead to bigger steps! We’re as loyal as our pet parents and treat them like family.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Believe in yourself and find your niche. you have to do what you love and I love offering personalized grooming one on one.
