Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Parker.
Hi Tim, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Upon running one morning during the 3rd Avenue strip in the heart of downtown Chula Vista, saw a vacant storefront, walked up to the windows and envisioned a dream of bringing great quality beers to my underserved neighborhood. South San Diego was an area significantly lacking craft beer; and San Diego has exceptional craft beer, but it was hard to find in our community. Being a homebrewer and true sailor with drinking experience and having had the opportunity of traveling around the world thanks to the Navy, I knew through my personal experience that BEER brought people of all backgrounds together.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing in life is a smooth road; it’s those challenges and obstacles that make the wins that much sweeter because we learn from those difficulties. It is those challenges that teach us experiences we must go through to shape us into who we are meant to become. For us, the challenges are daily and continual. We are at a point now where we learn to embrace them because there is a lesson in it all.
The struggles can vary from our initial build-out in started, getting permits approved in a timely manner from our city while doing it all as a family-owned business with no investors or large financial support. And now, as we all know, enduring the pandemic we are still in, overcoming Covid challenges and adapting as best we can, finding solutions together and learning along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are the only Black-owned brewery in all of San Diego County. Proud to be a Veteran owned, served my country proudly for 20 years and six days. My wife, Dali Parker, was the one helping me get this brewery off the ground while in our initial build-out. We are a true military family dealing with deployments while I was still on active duty. I was coming and going from the Navy, and she is still very much involved.
We are proud to showcase our community, our neighborhood with anyone that travels to visit us in Chula Vista. Our beer is made with high-quality ingredients, truly hand-crafted ales. When you walk into our brewery, it feels like you are family. Our brews are a mix of West Coast IPA’s, Pales, Blonde Ale and have 12 taps on hand. We were recipients of a Bronze medal from the Great American Beer Festival in 2019 for our American Brown Ale named “Browner than Ivan,” which you can find in our taproom.
We are currently working on our second location in Eastlake, coming in the fall, which we will offer BBQ by Oak & Anchors BBQ, another Veteran based family business. And are thrilled to be able to serve the East side of Chula Vista.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are very community-based and involved. In the brewery industry, we collaborate together and get creative with brews that typically give back to non-profits that support our neighborhoods and community programs.
In terms of beer, support your local independent neighborhood breweries. We all have a fresh beer, fresh batches ready for you to drink and enjoy. Our brewery hosts many fun events such as happy hour specials, DJ on weekends, Mariachi every Sunday from 3-7 pm. That is simply the best to enjoy on a Sunday afternoon with a great fresh beer.
