Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalie Felix Sanchez.
Hi Rosalie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve always been making art for as long as I remember, I started my art journey by upcycling clothes in middle school. This is what sparked creativity in my life! After not pursuing upcycling garments, I try again with drawing abstract designs on clothes during 2020. This is where Venus Designed was born! My mom owns a thrift store in Palm Desert, so I had the opportunity to sell my clothes at her store. My items started to get popular and people were asking for more (though this took a long time to happen). After seeing that people liked my work, the creative spark lit up again inside me and I made a variety of customer designed pieces. A year goes by and I get the opportunity to go digital with my art, after a couple months of practicing adapting – my art blossomed into what it is today! I now share my art through various mediums – tote bags with my art, stickers, shirts, art prints, and decorated incense holders! Plenty of my art takes on the general theme of body positivity and self-love, while some of my work is purely for looks and aesthetics. I now spend my time sharing my art with others by selling my work online and attending local markets.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The path to art-making hasn’t always been easy for me, art supplies are typically expensive if you invest in quality products. When I started Venus Designed, I had left a 9-5 job that wasn’t benefitting me. Aside from money being a struggle, transportation has been an issue for me and still is to this day. Though I struggle from time to time with this, things tend to work themselves out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I love most about my work is that many people haven’t seen things like it, I try to make art that appeal to multiple audiences, so there’s something for everyone. Many people may not expect this but are usually pleasantly surprised. I’m most commonly known for my tote bags, and abstract jeans, and stickers, these items are very popular! I’m most proud of the way I’ve been able to push through any boundaries and get through whatever I put my mind to. I believe what sets me apart from others is the fact that my art takes form on different mediums, so it’s almost guaranteed you’ll find something that interests you. My shop selection grows significantly at least once a month, with new items being made as often as possible.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The thing that matters to me the most of my family and my significant other. Without them, there would’ve been so many boundaries and obstacles I might not have been able to overcome. I owe a lot of my success to them. Art-wise, the most important thing would be the message I try to convey with body positivity and self-love. I try to create representation for a variety of people, as it boosts confidence. Everyone deserves to be seen and feel appreciated.
