Hi Caroline, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cozy Canine Coffee started in August 2022, inspired by our rescue pup from Helen Woodward Animal Center, Rhys. The joy and love we have for Rhys made us really want to give back to the dog community and help other pets get their second chance. I’ve been roasting coffee for a couple of years, and we were inspired to do a donation program as the core of our small business. We donate $1 per 12oz bag to San Diego animal rescues, share our donations on our monthly newsletter and other fun dog-related events.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a small business will always have challenges, including being welcomed into your community. When we launched, I was so surprised and humbled that we received so much positivity! We’ve been fortunate to have been welcomed warmly by the San Diego community, especially the dog community!
As you know, we’re big fans of Cozy Canine Coffee. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Cozy Canine Coffee is a woman & AAPI-owned coffee company which aims to serve the San Diego community by sharing high-quality and approachable coffee that supports and spreads awareness of local animal rescue organizations. I am really proud of our Donation Program where we donate $1 per 12oz bag & $6 per 5lb bag to our local animal rescue partners. We started in August 2022, and by the end of last year, we were able to donate $1039.68. I can’t wait to see how much we can donate this year!
Our coffee line-up has a little something for everyone (light, medium, dark, decaf), so if you’re an animal lover AND enjoy drinking coffee, I think we can find the beans for you! The names of the coffees are all dog-related, and you can learn all about the designated animal rescues on our website!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think having empathy is really important in any industry. Empathy is important to me in how I make business decisions, source green coffee, interact with customers, and participate in our community (with humans and pups!). I hope that is also why Cozy Canine Coffee resonates with folks.
