Meet Christianne Dowd of All Colors Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christianne Dowd.

Christianne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Photography, images, colors, smells, storytelling, memories… all of these elements have always been a big part of my life and they evoke a feeling I truly can’t live without belonging. They make up your story, who you are, where you belong. It is yours. It is who you are. Through photos we go back to our sacred place, we share our story with others, we feed our hearts through our eyes. Being a photographer and helping other people create their own visual story fulfills me. Having my own family story documented by photos is a great way to show others how important photography is. My love for photography turned into a career about a decade ago and today it remains a big love story.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Once turned into career other elements are added to the mix. And to an artistic soul, it is not always easy to deal with: money, marketing, billing, taxes… these are definitely the hard side of the job. Luckily my husband is a great help in those areas. Training, practicing, creating new products, expanding the creative vision… these are my favorite growing pains. They push me forward and make me proud of my work. We make mistakes, learn and grow. That is how it’s always been for me in photography. I don’t get stuck in the moment. I try to fix it, learn and move on to bigger challenges.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about All Colors Photography – what should we know?
My business main focus is photographing newborns and children. I absolutely LOVE photographing little, tiny babies in my studio. I have a great studio in Bay Ho, lots of natural light, lovely props, perfect for the newborn photography I do. Parents bring their babies in when they are around 1 week old and besides the posed baby photos we do plenty of family shots with parents and siblings. I am known for using a lot of colors and props in my newborn photography.

I am patient by nature, so interacting with children is very natural and inspiring to me. One of the most beautiful things about children is how spontaneous they are. So, just let them be. Forget about posing. Forget about looking at the camera and smiling. I love the emotions I can capture as I let them play freely. When it happens, it reminds me that we must be true to ourselves. We glow, we feel warm, we are whole.

I am very happy with my choices of locations for my shoots. I am constantly looking for new, beautiful places that will enhance my photos. Besides newborn and kids, I also do everything that revolves around them: Maternity, Family, Fresh 48 (done around baby’s first 48 hours out of the womb), Milestones.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I probably wouldn’t have started my business if it wasn’t for many friends and family members who pushed me to turn a hobby into a career. They are still a great support. But I have to say that among them there is one special person that makes my business grow the way it does and that is my husband.

He is a mix of manager (doing the “boring” part of my job), babysitter (he is a SUPER DAD taking care of our children when I am busy with sessions and editing), clown (when I bring him along to help with my sessions), and therapist (when I have to talk to someone about what is going on in my mind). I can guarantee that he is a very big part of my business success.

Pricing:

  • All of my sessions include digital files and prices start at $325.
  • Almost every month I have super short sessions at my studio for kids and they start at $65. It is a great opportunity to get to know me and try my work.
  • My newborn sessions fee is $250 and digital packages start at $200.
