Today we’d like to introduce you to Dewayne Flowers.
Dewayne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out as a grossly overweight teenager body painting when I was 17 for all the wrong reasons in rural Georgia. As I matured and the paintings progressed it became less about “oh my God, nudity!” and “Oh my God, awesome art and a new friend.” Between battling my weight and social anxiety, I am quite amazed at my ability to do something that requires a bit of social finesse.
My weight story is here use what you want:

I met my wife, Lana Chromium, who is also a body painter in Atlanta in 2013 and after meeting her that weekend I decided my time in Georgia had come to an end. I spent two weeks making the epic drive across the country into the arms of a beautiful woman and a new life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
See my weight story in first post. And, also growing up in the south in the bible belt as a nude artist, you can imagine the walls I hit. But, at the same time, I was a big wave in a small pond. I was (am still am in that area although I don’t live there anymore). However, in SD and LA where I do my work now, the pond is an ocean.
But, I’d rather ripple in the ocean that travels the world than a wave in a pond that goes nowhere.
Please tell us about FleshandColor.
I am not a company so much as I am just an artist. Like most artists. I make work that I feel like making from body art to pyrography and people like it or they don’t. If they do, I get to pay bills. 🙂 I specialize in bodypainting. Its what I have done for years and photography is secondary to that. Most clients are private clients who want to be painted for various reasons.
Whatever their reasons it doesn’t change the session and often is a therapeutic process for us both. I learn how to be more social and they usually share things they just needed to share or just have a relaxing time. At the end of the day, they feel better as a whole and are part of the art world that many don’t experience.
What sets me apart from others aside from my style is my physical history. A client who is almost in a panic attack as they step out of their comfort zone feels much better when they know that if anyone gets it, it’s me.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing, everything I did put me in her arms.
