Meet Kaela Kajiyama of Aloha Postpartum Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaela Kajiyama.

Kaela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my business in Hawai’i over a decade ago. Initially, the emphasis was on pregnancy and childbirth education and support. However, I noticed a gap in the support families had after pregnancy.

It was as if the baby (or babies!) arrive and the world would forget about the new parent’s needs. My business slowly pushed towards the direction of exclusively supporting families during the postpartum timeframe. After moving to California several years ago, I opened Aloha Postpartum Services.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not unlike the journey families go through after having babies, my business journey has been a road full of hills, turns and cruising. I had a period of personal life struggles that required me to put my business to the side for a bit as I navigated my new life adjustments.

I learned that a work and life balance wasn’t really possible, but rather a work and life integration was what I needed (thanks Tony Robbins for that reminder). This began the journey of navigating life as a business owner and a newly single mother to three kids. Thankfully, I found the nourishment my business needed and began to serve more families than ever and really thrive both as a business and an individual.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Aloha Postpartum Services’ goal is to help families have an easier postpartum experience.

A lot of parents struggle with feeling lost, exhausted, and not supported during the postpartum period. I offer support through postpartum care, education and sleep consulting so families can feel rested, listened to and a bit more comfortable in their new roles.

I offer infant and toddler sleep consulting to help families understand more about their child’s specific sleep needs, have a plan, and help them have sleep success with their new plan. Sleep services are offered on various levels, from sleep plan packages to in-home support. I also now offer distance sleep consulting which has proven to be a hit.

Another popular services is postpartum doula support and newborn care. This is an in-home service that is tailored to each client’s specific needs. It often includes newborn care education, postpartum healing support, infant feeding support, overnight support and more. I also have extensive experience in supporting Moms and families through various perinatal mood disorders.

I pride myself in offering real unbiased support for families. My goal is to empower families to own their journey and do things their way. This means I genuinely honor their requests, desires and specific needs.

Something that sets Aloha Postpartum Services apart is the comprehensive approach. If a client hires for sleep consulting, I am also taking into account the whole picture of postpartum wellness-how the client is doing physically, mentally and assessing other factors and needs. This leaves clients feeling empowered and supported all around.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! San Diego has been fabulous for my business’s growth. I feel there are so many resources in the community and opportunities for other small business owners to grow.
