Meet Laura Donadoni of La Com Wine Agency and The Italian Wine Girl Blog

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Donadoni.

Laura, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Bergamo, Italy and was bred on classic Italian wine and creative cuisine since a child. My career started as a columnist and wine and food reporter for several prestigious Italian magazines such as Gambero Rosso and anchor woman on the radio news for local and national radio networks; I also had my own food and wine show on the Italian broadcasting network Mediapason (second largest private TV network in Italy). Upon moving to the U.S., I translated my passion into The Italian Wine Girl blog and YouTube channel, trying to spread wine education and wine culture.

In 2015, I founded LA COM Wine Agency, a strategic P.R. and communications firm focused on wine and food industry.

I am a certified professional journalist and editor, PhD in Communication Sciences, a professional speaker, a certified Sommelier with merit with the North American Sommelier Association and the World Sommelier Association; I am also lucky enough to be one of the few Vinitaly International Italian Wine Ambassadors, a certified wine educator and wine taster and judge; I am a member of the Los Angeles Wine Writers Association and an official Zipkick influencer, active mostly on Instagram.

Most recently I have been appointed U.S. Brand Ambassador for Franciacorta, Italy’s most prestigious sparkling wine region and an honorable Knight of the Order of the Truffle and the Wines of Alba, a prestigious historic order of ambassadors of authentic Piedmont typical products and wines in the world.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Wine makes me travel across the world, moving from Europe to US has been one of the challenges I had to face lately. Drinking habits are different, taste is different, what people know or don’t know about wines is different. At the beginning, I was struggling to get into US food and wine preferences, but now, after almost 5 years, I fit just right in and I see the huge potential of American wine lovers in the next years.

Please tell us about La Com Wine Agency and The Italian Wine Girl Blog.
My company has two souls: one is the communication and marketing agency, La Com, which is focused on the food and wine industries and offers services of brand awareness, social media managing, events planning or corporate and private wine education services such as customize tastings and wine classes. The other soul is my blog The Italian Wine Girl, where I share my knowledge and my wine experiences with readers or followers, I am very active on social media, on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

My “mission” is to help people to make conscious choices about wines, to dare and taste something different from the usual Chardonnay. I am very happy when, after one of my seminars or blog posts, somebody changes perspective and opens his mind to new wine knowledge and experiences. That’s my goal: to spread wine and food culture.
And this is also what makes my communication agency different from any other: our staff is well trained specifically about wine and food, my collaborators are sommelier, certified educator or wine writers, we know how to tell the qualities of your wine or your gourmet product!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started my YouTube channel before. I think that social video communication is the future. I am constantly looking for opportunities to communicate wine and food through videos and engaging content on social media, it is one of the most effective marketing strategies a company in this field (food and wine) can ever choose.
