Meet Ron Ford of Ron Stuart Men’s Clothing in Bankers Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Ford.

Ron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We opened the store in San Diego in 1981. It was located on the corner of 6th & C streets. A few years later, we moved to the corner of 5th & C Streets. Later on, we moved to 225 A Street. Our current location is 2410 1st Ave. in Bankers Hill. To date, we have been in business over 36 years. We have served the professional community with suits, coats and slacks. As times have changed, we’ve added men’s sportswear. We carry name brand merchandise such as; Jack Victor, Hart Schaffner & Marx, Agave, 34 Heritage, Stone Rose, David Donahue, Pantherella, plus many more fine lines. To remain in business so long, we do many types of promotions to give our clients quality at a moderate price. We have the same Italian for over 30 years. We believe our customers deserve the best service that we can provide. Hopefully, we can build a friendship that can last over the years.

Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles that we encountered were finding a suitable location after our previous lease expired. As men have transitioned out of suits and dress up attire, we had to make a shift to sportswear. Thirty years ago, our business was 90% dress attire. Today our business is 50/50 dress vs sportswear,

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Ron Stuart Men’s Clothing story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in quality clothing at a reasonable price. We are able to give our clients current looks in clothing and sportswear at attractive prices. We have always had the lowest cost for operating a Men’s Store which allows us to past the savings on to our clients. We can fit slim cut 25 year old man as well as the full cut for a man.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We plan to do a lot more mail order and probable shift more merchandise to sportswear. Plus any man that wants to be fitted properly in his clothing should use a tailor such as ours.

Pricing:

  • We normally would have some type of promotion that would give our clients 30% off.
