Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnie Robison.
Hi Ronnie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was 6 years old, my dad started working in the mortgage business and has ever since. From that time up until I started in the mortgage business 11 years ago I was confident that I wouldn’t be following in his footsteps. Apparently all the times we watched the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” or all those car rides hearing my dad talk to clients and underwriters on the car phone had an effect on me that I couldn’t escape. I tried a season working for the LA Clippers and a year in purchasing for a medical company. Even working for a bank as a banker wasn’t close enough. The draw to the entrepreneurial life of being a 100% commission based with its unlimited potential while helping people make the largest purchase of their life was who I was made to be. But my first couple years in the business didn’t start out that way. I jumped into doing home loans in 2010. We owned a home, had a 1 year old, and another on the way. Yet what I was made to do didn’t come easy as the first year I made less than minimum wage. Many in the business at that time were frustrated as loans had become so much harder to do, but being new in the business I couldn’t believe how much I was getting paid to help people get into a house. I was making so little money because I was helping so few people. Early on I could see that if I could find more people to help that this career could really work. I caught a big break in 2011 while working my second job as a basketball coach one of my players parents was a real estate coach. He invited me to come to one of his conferences which taught people how to take such good care of their clients that not only would they come back but they would refer friends and family. I decided at the conference to join the coaching program spending more money in hopes of what I could build. That choice has helped me grow my business by 50% every year since. The growth allowed me to start my own company in 2015 and again hire another coach to help me build out a team in 2017. Today as a team we get the opportunity to help people win at home ownership. We help people win by walking them through our process that helps them identify what their home ownership goals are and then help them achieve those goals. During the process, we focus on educating our clients so they understand everything. Communicating with them often throughout the process but always on Wednesdays with our weekly check-ins and offering the best value by having the ability to broker to multiple lenders while keeping our expenses low. I feel very fortunate to get to be a mortgage broker.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We take challenges on one issue at a time. We have had many clients come to us with foreclosures, bad credit, job changes and many other issues. Yet we have still never declined anybody because instead we create a plan for what steps that client has to take in order to qualify. So they walk away feeling like somebody cares and they know exactly what they have to do. I’m so often surprised who actually does the work and who doesn’t. I had a single mother living in a trailer with 4 adult children who had been recently divorced, had a foreclosure and a bankruptcy. She followed our plan and purchased a home one year after getting her plan.
