Meet Trailblazer Danielle Brucklacher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Brucklacher.

Danielle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my journey into the beauty industry at Paul Mitchell the School in Sacramento. Eventually, making my way to San Diego as a navy spouse having two little boys and being a full time mom. With my husband’s help and once my two boys were school age, I returned to school for Makeup Artistry. I completed the Makeup Design program at Bellus Academy here in National City. My career really took off at this point, I’ve learned so much from so many awesome people! I found my home for salon services in Coronado, CA at Salon DeVille where I have so much fun doing hair color, cutting, extensions and styling. I specialize in color corrections.
Another huge part of my business is Face and Hair Candy on location, Hair and Makeup, you name it! Weddings, TV, editorial, runway and special events of any kind! I really don’t feel as though I’m working! I’ve built my business by creating art that I love and making my clients beautiful and joyful at the same time! What more could I ask for!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would say confidence in your artistic abilities and building trust from your clientele will be your biggest challenge as it was mine! It took some time for me to realize, “hey, I’m the professional and I know what I’m doing” to be able to tell your client “this is what we should do and you should trust me”. I love that I have grown into that confidence needed behind the chair or on location. And of course, life in itself creates struggles for us all. That’s just how life is. You have to learn ways around things like having kids and other obstacles. Have a family member help you care for them and start working towards your professional goals. It may take you longer but at least, you’re moving forward!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Face and Hair Candy – what should we know?
I have had the opportunity to do hair and makeup for some pretty awesome stuff! Obviously, to be a part of someone’s biggest day of their lives is pretty great! But, I’ve gotten to do makeup for a Rolls Royce new release party at Ogara Beverly Hills where we were able to mingle with celebrities and sit in some pretty amazing cars!
Another time, I was invited to host my own hair and makeup segment with Shally on Fox 5 at the opening day of the Famous Delmar Horse Races! I have been abundantly blessed!

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I do feel like I learned as a child, to be independent and self sufficient. I grew up basically taking care of myself while my dad went to work. I get it, he had to! How else would we have food and a roof over our head? And, he had some high standards for me as well. I wasn’t aloud to disappoint. I was also a entrepreneur as a child. I would create a stand to sell anything I thought would sell. At one point, I was selling clipped roses at the local mini mart to people that probably didn’t need a single clipped rose but more so thought my idea was cute. I’ve never wanted to work for anyone other than myself and I knew it had to be creative, artistic and positive.
