Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Schneider.
Hannah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have a very non-traditional career path! While I was a good student, I never enjoyed the typical classroom setting. Instead of attending a four-year college, I started interning while working in restaurants at the age of 18. I completed several social media and public relations internships and eventually got hired at a boutique hospitality firm, Chemistry PR! During this time, I was freelancing for some local restaurants, including Donovan’s Steakhouse and The French Gourmet. Eventually, a restaurant operations opportunity led me to New York City, where I started my agency.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship is never what I would consider smooth. It is a CONSTANT trial and error. What started as a freelance passion has now turned into my career. Learning how to hire, interview, and manage a team was all part of the process! I combatted what I didn’t know by surrounding myself with mentors who were gracious enough to share their wealth of knowledge, studying entrepreneurs and companies I strived to be like and working as many free events as possible to gain experience! Social media has glamorized being a business owner, what they don’t see are the countless hours at night learning tax laws in several states, self-teaching how to build websites in order to cut costs and lower overhead, the emotional toll and 14 hour days. That said, I wouldn’t have it any other way, and feel so fortunate to get to do what I love every single day.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the BRND House story. Tell us more about the business.
BRND house is a digital agency specializing in hospitality, travel, and lifestyle social media management and public relations. We are best known for our work with restaurants and chefs, and my extensive background in restaurant operations is what sets us apart. While several publicists or PR companies can study food trends, read up on the latest news, most do not have the in house experience that I am able to bring to the table. Typically, this has proven that our team and I speak the same language as restaurant owners, chefs, staff members and marketing directors and have a deeper understanding of what actually moves the needle and drives sales.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t think “luck” has necessarily played a role, but I do think having no ego, being extremely self-aware and being hyper-conscious of what I don’t know has led me to be successful.
