Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Biondi.
Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Melissa LeEllen Biondi. I am the founder and CEO of Creative Global Branding, formally, Creative Global Entertainment. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. There’s a lot of late nights, stressful days, long hours, and trial and error. We are paving a new way, a new path, and it can be very daunting. I have been on an entrepreneurial journey my whole life, learning and growing from year to year. From a young age, I was thrust into the realm of responsibility, working in high school to provide for my family and myself. Traditional 9-to-5 jobs never resonated with me. Instead, my life took me on a journey through theater stages, film sets, experiential marketing campaigns, and even fashion runways. But in every setting, underneath the roles and responsibilities, was an underlying fear – a voice that whispered, “I wasn’t enough.”
However, everything shifted when I participated in Discovery Channel’s “Naked and Afraid.” In the challenging environment of the Panamanian Jungle, without the comforts of food, clothing, or shelter, I faced monsoon rainstorms and the lurking danger of jungle cats. Alone, without a partner, I wasn’t just another participant in a show; I was a survivor in every sense of the word. The experience was my test, transforming my mindset. I came out with the belief that I am limitless, resilient, and capable of facing any challenge. (We’ll talk more in detail about this challenge later in this interview:
This mindset is paramount in entrepreneurship. The daily grind of an entrepreneur demands bold risks constant faith – in the process, in connections, but most importantly, in oneself. Even if you’re starting from scratch or believe you lack certain skills, it’s essential to remember that our minds are potent tools. Every piece of knowledge and experience is a brick that builds the foundation of our journey. My diverse experiences, from acting to collaborating with industry giants like Delta, McDonald’s, and Coca-Cola, shaped me into the leader I am today.
Today, as Creative Global Branding flourishes, every victory, whether big or small, is a cause for celebration. Our achievements are testament to the journey: one that’s lined with challenges but also unparalleled growth. To any entrepreneurs out there that are getting started, remember to cherish every learning opportunity and always have faith in your journey and yourself.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship, by its very nature, is a journey often full of challenges. Embarking on this path means forging new trails, not just following the beaten path. In my own journey, the road was anything but smooth, and the challenges were layered.
One of the most significant struggles I faced was the overwhelming sensation of ‘going it alone.’ In the initial stages, like many entrepreneurs, I found myself juggling multiple roles. From conceptualizing ideas to executing them, from accounting to marketing – I was wearing all the hats. While this gave me a profound understanding of every facet of my business, it also came with its share of burnouts and moments of self-doubt.
The solitude of trying to scale a venture single-handedly can create what I term an ‘invisible ceiling.’ It feels as though no matter how hard you push or how high you jump, there’s a limit to how far you can go alone. This ceiling doesn’t just limit business growth; it also restricts personal growth and the potential for innovation.
The realization that I couldn’t, and shouldn’t, do it all was pivotal. Understanding that a collaborative effort, a team with shared goals and diverse skills, can propel a business into the stratosphere was transformative. A team doesn’t just share the workload; they share the dreams, the setbacks, and the victories. They bring unique perspectives, ideas, and solutions that one person just can’t do alone. I always say two minds are better than one, three minds are better than two…and it’s true, a team lifts each other up. While the entrepreneurial road has its rough patches, it’s the struggles and the lessons we go through that shape the journey, making the destination even more rewarding.
One of my most daunting personal challenges was being thrust into the raw wilderness on Discovery Channel’s “Naked and Afraid.” Alone and with my partner having tapped out, I was tested beyond imagination, discovering strengths I didn’t know I possessed. Everyday was another day of survival, another challenge, and another day of figuring literally how to survive. If you do not know the show, it’s 21 days in a remote area of the world with only 2 people (a man and a woman) and I was only given 3 items: a cooking pot, a Firestarter, and a machete.
I was in the Panamanian Jungle in South America, a remote region of swampland and dense rainforest that spans 100 km of the border between Colombia and Panama. The Darién Gap is a roadless, lawless stretch of mountainous rainforest. It’s known for being virtually uncrossable. The Darién Gap is infested with poisonous snakes, spiders, insects, and monsoon rainstorms. Just to let you know how dangerous this area is; in 2022, 36 people died in the Darién Gap. But, to me this challenge tested every cell in my being and the main thing it taught was about not giving up and that resilience is at the core of my being.
Beyond that particular adventure, my path, which led to being recognized in The NYC Journal’s “50 under 50,” was filled with highs and lows. I had to navigate personal and professional challenges, introspect deeply, and embrace life’s lessons. Throughout it all, I have managed to channel my experiences into understanding and enriching my ‘foyer,’ (read my upcoming book, “Foyer To The Soul” to learn more about your inner space), to make more grounded decisions and find calm amidst the chaos. It’s this mindset that will truly help you along your journey and find your peace even when challenges are all around you.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Creative Global Branding (CGB) began its journey back in 2009 as Creative Global Entertainment, primarily focusing on product placement and experiential marketing. However, over time, our vision and mission evolved. Today, we proudly stand as a company specializing in Brand Elevation Marketing, emphasizing on growth.
At our core, CGB is the collaborative brainchild of a husband-wife duo, myself and my husband, Jesse Biondi. My rich background of working with big names like McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, and Gold Peak Tea, among others, paired with Jesse’s innovative approach, allows us to channel the same ‘big brand thinking’ to small to mid-sized businesses. Our goal? To empower them to not just survive but thrive!
What truly sets us apart is our profound commitment to community. At CGB, we firmly believe in the power of entrepreneurship. While large corporations have their success stories, we find our purpose in nurturing the growth of smaller businesses, allowing them to tell their unique tales. Our motto summarizes this sentiment best: “It’s your vision; we just bring it to life.”
One of the programs we are especially proud of is the CMO in Training program. This initiative sprang from recognizing a unique challenge many businesses face: to build an internal marketing powerhouse but being constrained by budget while you are growing. We’ve crafted this program with these businesses in mind. Here’s how it works:
Instead of you making a substantial investment to hire and train a full-time Chief Marketing Officer from the get-go, we step into that pivotal role for you. But this isn’t about us taking the reins and leaving your team in the dark. No, our approach is collaborative.
As we work on your marketing strategies, simultaneously, we’re mentoring and training a member of your team, or we can recruit for you—to be your internal CMO. We guide them, hand-in-hand, through the world of branding and marketing. From strategic planning to audience segmentation to ensuring brand consistency across various platforms, your in-house team gets an immersive experience.
The ultimate goal? To ensure that when the time comes for us to step back, your internal team isn’t just ready to take over, but they do so with a deep understanding of your brand’s core values and essence. This ensures that your brand message remains consistent, potent, and true to its roots, no matter where your business journey takes you next.
Lastly, for the readers, our message is simple yet powerful: Whether you’re in heating and air, entertainment, healthcare, or any field in between, our extensive expertise is at your service. If you’re a business that aspires for authenticity, growth and a genuine connection with its community, then CGB is your partner on this transformative journey.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned over my journey is that I am more powerful than I have ever given myself credit for. In this world, we are taught to be small. We are taught to learn the words “we can’t do it,” “there is too much competition for you to be successful.” But I have learned to stop listening to those words and listen to myself. I am enough, I can do it, and I will be successful.
Throughout my journey with highs, lows, trials, and triumphs, the most profound realization I’ve come to learn is recognizing the immense power that resides within me. This power has mostly been overlooked most of my life. Society and our environment ingrain in us a sense of limitation. We’re conditioned to stay within the lines, to fit into the molds, and to downplay our own capacities. Phrases like “you are not worthy”, “you can’t do it” or “there’s too much competition out there” aren’t just words; they become the invisible chains that bind our spirit, aspirations, and potential.
Yet, with time and experience, I recognized that these constraints, these words of doubt, were merely external noises. They didn’t define me, nor did they truly reflect what I was capable of. I learned that I wasn’t just ‘enough,’ but rather, I was overflowing with potential, creativity, and tenacity. The world might try to place us in boxes to label our potential, but the truth is, our power is boundless. The moment we decide to believe in ourselves, to push back against the noise and the naysayers, is the moment we break free. It’s the moment our journey truly begins.
Through all the lessons and growth, I have been able to impact the lives around me and now through our Movement called ALL OK, we are able to impact lives around the world. Partnering with The Powerful Project and The Association for Global Kindness, we are able to speak around the world on the power of mindset through being mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually strong and healthy. This mindset is so important for us to be ready to take on challenges that life throws at us constantly.
So, if there’s a lesson that I’d like to share, it’s this: Recognize the incredible strength and power within you. Embrace it. Channel it. And always remember that your potential is limitless. You are not just enough; you are extraordinary. And in that realization, success isn’t just a possibility; it becomes an inevitability.
