Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Blok.
Hi Nicole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began in the vibrant country of Panama, where I was born to a diverse heritage. My father is American, and my mother is Peruvian. Growing up in Panama, I was exposed to a rich tapestry of cultures and traditions, which helped shape my worldview and fuel my passion for the entertainment industry.
At the age of 8, I ventured into the world of modeling, which sparked my fascination with television. As I grew older, I discovered my passion for the nuances of communication, spanning from journalism and TV production to the dynamic realm of public relations. This passion drove me to excel academically and seek out opportunities.
My big break came at the age of 20 when I landed the role of a host on a realtor TV show. This experience opened doors for me, and that same year, I was presented with the opportunity to produce and host “What’s In, “the first-ever show broadcasted in the main shopping malls of Panama City. Covering fashion, technology, and events, “What’s In” quickly gained popularity and transitioned to open TV in Panama, becoming one of the top fashion shows at the time.
Driven by my passion for television production, I made the bold decision to pursue my dreams further by moving to Madrid to pursue a master’s degree in TV Production. Those years in Madrid were nothing short of extraordinary, as I had the privilege of working with the production house of the renowned travel TV show “Madrileños por el mundo,” among other live shows.
After immersing myself in the Spanish television industry, made friends and loved this amazing city, I eventually found myself compelled to return to my homeland. Back home, I continued to pursue my career in TV, developing proposals for local networks. However, fate had other plans, and I was presented with an exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s leading sports companies in their marketing department.
I had the opportunity to work on brand-new projects and witness firsthand the impact of our efforts on a global scale. From developing creative content to executing communication plans and digital strategies tailored to meet global, regional, and local objectives. My role allowed me to hone my skills and expand my knowledge in marketing and branding.
But beyond the professional growth, what truly made my experience unforgettable were the connections I forged with my colleagues, creating a supportive network that enriched both my professional journey and personal life.
At the same time, I remained connected with brands and also took on a creative endeavor with a friend. We decided to start a podcast together, and it turned out to be an incredibly rewarding experience. Over three seasons, we had a blast interviewing local personalities and discussing a wide range of interesting topics. It was a labor of love that allowed us to explore our passions and connect with our audience in a meaningful way.
A year and a half later, I got engaged. However, life had another adventure in store for us. By the end of 2023, my partner and I made the exciting decision to embark on a new chapter together in the beautiful city of San Diego. The city’s welcoming atmosphere, diverse culture, and stunning views captured our hearts, making it the perfect place for us to build our future together.
San Diego truly feels like home, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be here.
Social media has become my playground for connecting with others. Whether I’m sharing stories, experiences, travel adventures, or giving a sneak peek into my daily life, it brings me immense joy to create my own content and engage with people.
Now, as I look forward to the next chapter, I’m pumped to keep sharing stories, making friends, and seeing where life takes me next.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Moving from Panama to Madrid was a big deal for me. I had to leave behind everything I knew – my family, friends, and the TV show I was doing well in. It was tough because part of me wanted to stay where things were familiar, but another part of me was excited about starting fresh in Europe.
I had to really think about it. I knew if I didn’t go for it now, I might never have the chance again. I told myself that sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to grow. So, I took a deep breath, took the plunge, and embraced the unknown. It wasn’t easy, but looking back, I’m glad I did it.
Transitioning from the world of television to working in a multinational corporation brought its own set of challenges. Collaborating across different functions, engaging with numerous stakeholders, and executing strategies demanded adaptability and strategic thinking. Working with teams spread across the globe added a layer of complexity but also excitement to the experience. It was a dynamic environment where I learned to navigate diverse perspectives and harness the collective strength of global teams to drive successful campaigns.
The decision to move to San Diego marked yet another significant chapter in my journey. Starting afresh in a new city meant leaving behind established routines, forging new friendships, and exploring unfamiliar activities. Though the idea of starting over can feel scary and intimidating, the prospect of embarking on this new adventure fills us with excitement and anticipation for the possibilities that lie ahead.
Reflecting on these challenges, I take pride in my ability to embrace change and adapt to new environments. Each transition has been a testament to my resilience, determination, and willingness to embrace the unknown. I’m grateful for the opportunities for growth and self-discovery that these challenges have presented, and I’m eager to see what the future holds.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Now, as I embark on a new journey in San Diego, I find immense joy in the creative process of curating content and sharing it through my social media platforms. There’s a special thrill in exploring the vibrant neighborhoods and scenic landscapes of San Diego, capturing moments that inspire others. Whether it’s a stunning sunset over the Pacific or an exhilarating hike along the coast, each experience is an opportunity to interact and connect with people.
I remain open to the endless possibilities that lie ahead. While my heart is deeply rooted in the entertainment industry, I also harbor a keen interest in the dynamic world of marketing. Whether it’s producing captivating content or crafting innovative marketing campaigns, I’m excited to continue exploring new avenues for creativity and self-expression. With each step forward, I’m eager to embrace the challenges and opportunities that come my way, fueled by a passion for storytelling and a commitment to making a positive impact in the world around me.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
It’s natural to feel scared or uncertain when stepping into the unknown. Instead of letting fear hold you back, embrace it as a sign that you’re about to embark on something truly transformative. Remember, growth often occurs outside of your comfort zone.
Always surround yourself with people who believe in you and your dreams.
In the age of social media, it’s easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others and trying to fit into a certain mold. Remember that your uniqueness is your greatest asset. Stay true to yourself, your values, and your passions, and let your authenticity shine through in everything you do.
And last but not least, pursuing your dreams and starting a new adventure can be physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. Make sure to prioritize self-care along the way. Take breaks when you need them, practice self-compassion, and listen to your body and mind.
